NIB and NOS
It's a dilemma buying new in box (NIB) or new old stock (NOS) components: they're often very expensive and their value is immediately decimated the moment you use them.
Nevertheless, I reckon most of you are hording NIB or NOS components.
So let's see your stash. Extra points for particularly rare or unusual components.

I'm not really interested in those concepts. Just the quality. I buy stuff to use it, so I was happy to get a 25% discount for not wanting the box these came in:

About the value of packaging: a set of alloy TA water bottle cage clamps without the paper envelope and without the screw and nut can be had NOS for ten dollars; in the little paper envelope and with the screw and nut, one set will cost you $99.

That's a classy derailleur non-fixie !
Here's some Barelli Supreme pedals that I snagged a few months back:

The pedals are still wrapped in their 1970's plastic:

Objects of beauty:

I'm definitely not going to use these, but I have a scruffy pair of Barelli Supreme's plus some extra parts that I'll restore into a usable set.

I've held them in my hand, spun the axles...these are just top-quality pedals to me and I've always wanted to try them. One day, I hope!

Just wondering, why does the right pedal have the "D" stamp on it which I assume means "Droit", the French word for right, while the left pedal has "L" for left. Might you have a French threaded right pedal and ISO left?
I ask, cause usually the language those letters are in correspond to what threading the pedals have

Whenever I get NOS parts, I move them to a new home. People will pay a hefty premium for NOS, and I buy stuff to use, not display. So the NOS premium helps offset my crazy bike spending.

Bikes: It's complicated.
Bike stuff is meant to be ridden.

I don't believe I have any NOS stuff around anymore. I have a spare Super Record headset that looks unused, but no box so you never can tell. I had a pair of NOS Campy SL pedals up until spring when I pressed them into service on the Sparrow. I made the call not to sell that bike, so I needed to be able to ride it

From: 700 Ft. above sea level.
Bikes: Not as many as there were awhile ago.
NOS 1982 Fuji Monterey frame set, NOS Fuji pantographed SunTour Vx derailleurs and DT shifters. They will eventually be used on the Monterey when I have all the pieces.

I bought some "NOS" Suntour Sprint 9000 derailleurs and shifters for my Schwinn Circuit I'm redoing. I guess they are "NOS"... Only the rear derailleur came with a box & literature..Everything is brand new but I don't think I can call the rest "NOS" or "NIB"...not that I'm looking to sell them, but as someone who is new at C&V, what should I describe them as if I were to sell them? I certainly don't want to misrepresent them... John

Can't make this up. Came home today from my LBS with these and this thread was waiting for me.
Gran-Compe 500 NOS - the rubber on the levers seem 100% and there are cables under there.
The rubber on the tire guides is supple. Have no idea which bikes these came stock on or if they are sought after.
Paid cash and got a smoking deal - A wink and a smile with greenbacks has its privileges

Also picked up the shifters that I stupidly didn't buy the last time around to compete the set - also paid cash and have little invested in the set
I could stare at the rear derailleur for hours I think

I have no clue what I am going to do with these things but I couldn't let them sit on a shelf. The hard thing is you never know what the perfect project is that is worthy of things like this.
May have to see them go to someone who is madly in love with their forever bike and these would make the final piece of the puzzle.
"It's only new once" is a big responsibility. I wish I were still just a kid clamping Mickey Mantle rookie cards in my spokes.

And those empty boxes you see on eBay for sale will get parts placed in them and then sold as NIB. I know people do collect those empty Campagnolo boxes but unless someone can show me proof that none are used fraudulently, I am leary of these listings and look with doubts at some of the NIB sales.
Just because I'm paranoid it doesn't mean they aren't out to screw me over.
Sorry RS, didn't mean to harsh your mellow.
sdn40 I understand how you feel about just looking at those components, I had a set of those brakes back in the day. I put them on a Raleigh International to look like it had NR sidepulls. Fantastic looking brakesa and seriously nicely made.

A couple of years ago the new thing was people re-filling very expensive wine bottles with cheap crap after drinking to re-sell. Who thinks this s**t up ?
