Can’t believe the Sequoia is still here as well. With perfect condition, Kirtland tour packs on it.

with the current economic uncertainty, I think of no surprise.
I have seen a number of bikes on offer that Should have sold.
end of last year I considered a few would sell at a 50% discount to investment. Now, 75-80% off. The way of things.

Not a stretch for Jim though. ;)

I suspect Mr. Youngberg was a challenge to work with, again, not a stretch for Jim I don't think.

I’ve been seeing this weird trend at my local co-op of people disassembling bikes and then donating them. The picture below was of two different bikes that were completely disassembled. The little box was packed with all of the parts…including 2 cranksets…and were ever carefully labeled. They were both missing the wheels and the box had the axle from one of the wheels in it.

Not pictured were a fairly recent model Specialized Stumpjumper full suspension bike that, thankfully, had both wheels although it was missing the front through axle and the brake perches. The other bike is a Turner Sultan which was mostly just a frame. I have either resurrected all of them or am in the process of resurrecting them for sale or give away. But it’s jolly odd that they come to us in this state. I haven’t really seen this kind of disassembly before.

I agree, It is odd.

Also odd is my local coop's preference for handling donated bikes. They would strip them and put the components into the parts bins and then assemble new bikes from the collection of bikes, frames, and components. It seems like extra work, but maybe it frees the minds from the artificial constraint of "it came that way."

And I'm not sure they take in donated bikes anymore. I haven't spent much time there recently, so the practices may have changed.

Agreed it is a 1983 model, the headbadge was a 1 year only. and the Serial number reaffirms it was serialized in 1983.

Dang my size too. Super cool bike. I hope they build it up with the new owner!

JC Higgins / sears / Campy?!?

JC Higgins for Sears in Portland Co-op

Portland has a Co-op in deeper SE which is tied in with an arts and crafts non-profit.

by far the cleanest bikeshop that isn’t a Trek Studio I’ve ever seen. The restrooms have custom tiles donated by local tile company Ann Sacks!! (Only bike shop restroom I’ve ever seen without a quick release lever holding the TP)

Anyway, they recently received 3, yes 3 of these beautiful classics. The 1st of which they dismantled and replaced all the grease. Not much was needed they said. Pics speak for themselves. Two are size 56 CTC, one look a lil smaller. They are asking $300.

note: I have no affiliation with this co-op.

Speaking of Bikeworks:

https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...138344f3e6.jpg

No 6400 crankset, but they had these 7402 for $10. Maybe I can trade for a 6400 full crankset? These would look the part, but the rest of the group is Tri-color and I am in the minority that hates these cranks.

I need to stop by. It's a heck of a lot closer to me than Bike Farm or CCC, but their hours make it a little tough.

Their hours are perfect for me. Bike Farm is the tricky one to get into, and the CCC is so far.

This 1983 Cinelli is at a Portland shop 92nd and foster.

they want $1200 but after I pointed out mis-matched wheels, etc, they said they could see taking $1k

Puch/Steyr Bergmeister re-badged for Sears (J.C. Higgins) but seems like a bit nicer than some with that GS RD instead of a Valentino or Velox or a Huret Allvit...AND a Brooks B-17?!
Did somebody excavate an abandoned Sears warehouse and find 3 sealed bike boxes?
Miraculous!

Robvolz 05-10-25 12:12 PM

They have 2 more in the back, they haven't gone through them yet but seems basically YES!!

Seriously!
I went to look at it and the thing ended up coming home with me. Someone possibly had a little fun with it.

News flash

i I popped into Portland’s community cycle center for a shipping box when they announced:

all frames:$50
all frame + fork : $75

there are several (like 7) Benotto 3000s here (w forks) that were made by DeRosa for Benotto. Diamond shaped chain stays and hearts in the BB!!!

none my size. For the best.

At the coop where I occasionally volunteer, high end bikes like this go for much less. I saw an Italian racing bike go for something like $200. It was not in this kind of condition, though, so it's not an even comparison.

Stopped by today for the first time in months and spotted this on a shelf, an Ideale 92H Rebour saddle. Unpriced, and just as I was about to ask the crowd arrived from a ride and jonesing for coffee so I left by the back door and will check back during the week. If they don't want a ransom for it I'll probably buy it.

I stopped by my co-op today to get supplies for the Box O' Crap and wound up cleaning the junk box. It wasn't full today but still enough to send to the scrap yard. There were a couple of interesting items in the junk that made me stop for a minute. The super tall Motobutterpecan that gave up its crank and French bottom bracket to be used on this new to MH Gitane. It should be a nice build with a set of single speed wheels and Mafac brakes, and some upright bars. Every once in a while I get sucked into a build that just screams make me into a functional BSO. Today's catch:
https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...a5bab62a3d.jpg
A pretty rough Gitane with Suntour upgrades but I am seeing a single speed daily driver. Smiles, MH
