Bikes: +/-2000 Alp d'Huez (Dura Ace/Ultegra) Alloy Synapse disc (Ultegra), '84 de Rosa Eddie Merckx Super Prestige (Modified with 10sp Record mechs), Carbon Synapse disc (SRAM Red), '80-something Trek 540 (7sp AccuShift), Serotta Fierte (Ultegra)

Fuji Saratoga

This is a fun ride. You really do feel like your legs have an extra 10%, with the Cycloid rings. Steady as a rock, too, and even though it dives a little into a turn, it holds a good line. It's a hefty feel, that reminds me of borrowing my mom's '67 Ford wagon, with the 390 V8, that I used to powerslide around the horseshoe bends on Beach Drive.

BTY, those aren't the right wheels. Will post a better photo when I install them.

Thats a 1988- Nice bike!

Love mine. Its a private label frame Fuji made in '90 that matched their Saratoga. Looks to be the same size as yours too!
Mine was powdercoated by another BF member before I got my hands on it, so it doesnt have any of the great late 80s/early 90s graphics.

Its carried me across Iowa a couple times and on many 2-4 day loaded rides too. Ishiwata Si35 feather triple butted goodness!

Ha, not much is original since i got it as a bare frame. The geometry is really perfect for stable riding over many hours. Below is a rundown.
I cant tell from your pic- does the driveside chainstay have a spot to place spokes that doubles as a chainslap protector? I see yours has 3 bottle mounts and a chain holder as well as full size pump peg- its just itchin to be loaded down with gear and taken for an adventure!

Original
- frame
- fork
- headset
- cantilever brakes
- seatpost

New
- bars(Velo Orange)
- stem(Velo Orange)
- wheelset(Salsa Delgado rims with Tiagra hubs)
- chain
- cassette
- front derailleur(Shimano Sora)

Used
- crankset(period correct Shimano Deore 48/38/36)
- bar end shifters(9sp Shimano from ebay)
- Aero brake levers(tektro)
- sadddle(ebay Brooks B17)
- rear derailleur (late 90s Shimano XT from ebay)
- pedals(Shimano A530 from ebay)

I like that you did not feel beholden to replicate the original. Yes, there is a spoke holder (with two spokes, assumed to be original), but on the left chain stay--and plenty of pock marks on the right stay.

Did you have the frame cold set for the 130mm wheel, or do you just slide it in? (like I do with ease on my De Rosa) Although I might switch over to a Shimano FW-RD-Shifter set up, I think I will keep the 126mm/27"/canti thing going.

Oh thats interesting the spoke holder was on the left side! Musta changed it in either 89 or 90 then.
Mine was set at 130mm already. Not sure if that was done after build before it was powdercoated or if it came stock at 130mm. Mine came stock as a 3x7 drivetrain and with it being from a time when bikes were transitioning from 126 to 130, there is a chance it was built as 130mm. Interesting question, I hadnt even considered it until now.
