PX-10 Three Speed

I've been riding this as a 2 speed most of the summer, but without a rear brake. Now with a Sturmey Archer S-RC3 coaster brake hub, shifter is mounted on the seat post.

Gearing is 52/19, for gear inches of 54/72/96.

Rides great, I spend most of the time in second gear on the flats around here.

Good looking bike.
Love the seatpost mounting; Neat and discrete !
I might try that idea myself.

Interesting. I ran my first Bianchi road bike, a low-end 1962 Corsa, as a 3-speed coaster for awhile, as a campus commuter, when I lived within a couple of miles of UCLA and needed something theft-resistant. I used one of the stock Huret downtube shift levers, which I think I would prefer over your admittedly very clever seatpost mount. I also like the old-fashioned stick shift quadrant shifters Sturmey-Archer made for top tube mounting. 54-72-96 sounds like good gearing for flat country; I used something closer to typical English 3-speed 50-66-88 to handle hills around here. That black PX-10 frame looks fabulous.

Very nice! I've thought about that kind of setup. My PX-10 is waiting for it's next assignment, I have the SA coaster brake hub in a box...I'd want fat tires and maybe a generator hub up front. I could see keeping the double Stronglight up front with an idler wheel...oh, man. I'm in trouble.

What saddle is that?

Your PX-10 reminds me a lot of Sheldon Brown's "PX-3" project.

Given that the frame is already too small I’m not sure I’d go there. In any event I’m not rushing to build another bike up...yet.

I like it!
