2018 Resolution(s)

It's that time. Let's hear what you have in mind.

Mine is a bit of a list.

Complete several builds (CBC Starjet, Argos, Gugified Raleigh Competition, Robin Hood, Raleigh Record, Raleigh Sports, the last bits on the '70 Raleigh Professional), go to the final Cirque, ride a lot more, the western Kentucky ride, a tweed ride somewhere, meet a few more C&V folks at 2+ locations.

Get the diabetes back under control.
Ride WAY more, finish up the projects I have, and be VERY selective about starting anymore.
Do more traveling with the wife (I'm taking a bike everywhere, BTW)

- Build a lugged road frame(starts in 3 weeks!).
- ride 600 more mi than this year.
- do 3 100mi 3 day regional loaded camping rides with my kids.

In order of declining probability of success: Ride more. Fly more. Thin the bike herd a bit (ha!). Start running again and drop a few lbs.

Mini-tours in the shoulder seasons when I can get time time off from work at the shop: Vancouver Island, Sunshine Coast, Gulf Islands, Olympic Peninsula ( paging [MENTION=280039]Lascauxcaveman[/MENTION] ).

Bike camping? Maybe. I'm not that rugged-and-ready a person, really, but I like the idea. As long as it doesn't rain.

Give clipless a proper go, once I get myself some new, properly fitting, SPD shoes.

Upgrade my wrenching and bike-fitting skills.

Jeff Bock. He has built since the 70s, but it was part time as he was a teacher(i believe) up until recent retirement.
He was actually out your way back in August with the bike below.

Really looking forward to the process. Its 5 hours each Sunday afternoon for 9 or 10 weeks. Just found out on friday that ill use TT OX Platinum tubes which is neat since TT is now out of the tubing biz.
Also found out we will use silver solder instead of brass and brazing. No idea if that means more or less cleanup around the lugs.

Also, @mikemowbz, get in touch. I've got a few overnight bike camping destinations picked out in the neighborhood. I've got a couple of perfectly capable and gravel-ready touring rides. I'm hoping to find out out if I can sleep on the ground again like when I was a kid and still be functional the next day. If not, it's all close to home. Also if you want to meet somewhere on Vancouver Island, I'm up for that, too, but I don't know where to camp. Shoulder season works best for me, too.

Let's do it.

My Black Mountain Cycles Monstercross with FF and RR racks and new set of 700x40 shoes on the way is (though admittedly not vintage) almost certainly up to the task.

I might be.

I do need to pick up a more compact, lightweight tent - but that was already on the 'to-do' list.

Will look at my calendar, talk to my boss, and shoot you a PM this week!

Sell the bikes that I am selling right now
Try not to buy anything more
Finish my design portfolio (finally) so that I could get into the bike industry.
Hurricane Ridge again, but on a different bike (aka geared lower) - for the challenge of the ascent, and the thrill of the descent.
Generally, ride more, and on cushier tires, taking things a bit easier.

My list (limited to bike/fitness related) is:
1. Bike commute more (min 3 days/wk, which will work out to 75 miles/wk)
2. Resume weekend Tabor laps (7-10 each time)
3. Do at least 2 centuries
4. Finish "Phat Bianchi"
5. Start "Alt Look"
6. Get rid of a bike. Just one. Gotta start somewhere.
7. Lose 15 lb
8. Improve upper body and flexibility

Cleanup will depend on you more than the filler you use. You may be clean or sloppy with either one. The main advantage of silver is lower temperatures used to make it flow. That's a lot better for the steel.
Using silver is still considered brazing even though it is sometimes referred to as soldering.
Have fun. There's nothing like the first ride on a frame you built.
