Tomma

Hey guys, if you'd like to know how I ended up with my frame, see my post about my Tommasini frame.

Anyways, I need to heat up the RD Hanger to straighten it and the heat will encroach a little bit on the seatstay and chainstay. This will damage paint.

The frame has got some paint damage anyways. I was thinking of re-spraying it, but will it lose value if I respray it here rather than sending it to Tommasini in Italy?

I’m not sure if Tommasini does repaints, but if so, it will assuredly cost as much, probably more than the frame is worth for resale. I don’t think a Tommy aluminum frame will command as much value as a steel one. If you have to heat it, I would consider just local paint match and touch up rather than a complete repaint.

If you do heat it, make sure your metal shop understands the heat treatment and aging properties of the specific type of aluminum.

Thanks.

The quote I got last year from Tommasini for paint was $750 which included shipping to and from Italy once I shipped it to Red Rose in PA. Tommasini will not sell decals and I have never seen Alloy Extra decals so they may be a custom one off job.
Tommasini is know for high end finishes so I think almost any respray will loose value in the high end US market but that may not be the case elsewhere. A DIY or auto shop respray might hurt big time but I have never seen a Premier Alloy Extra let alone one for sale and have no feel for an alloy frame Tommasini value. I would love to ride one as I was never a fan of aluminum back in the late '80s and '90s that I tried. The TOmmasini steel frames I have ridden and own are absolutely tops, my Techno '91 EL-OS is equal to my modern customs and the older SLX equal to my other fine marks, Colnago, etc.
