More interestingly, I can add info about the bike I'll be riding. I'll be on my 1973 De Rosa.

I've made a few changes since this picture was taken, the most visually obvious being swapping in white bar tape and wheels with silver rims.
That and the sneaky triplizer...

Basically I was thinking we get a doc or excel together with all the emails then setup group email out to all of the people. If google groups can send messages to all members, that could be the ticket.

On it.

I just created the group name BF Eroica California 2018
Email address for it is bf-eroica-california-2018@googlegroups.com

This is an invite only group. I've already sent out an invite to some people I know are going, PM me and I'll add you.

Info updated. Reminder to all:
***Donation activity has been limited, only 2 donors and $150 so far. Again, entirely optional for BF members, but hope to raise additional funds for Eroica and its charity, the SLO Hospice. Check in this thread, post #2 for donation details and let me know if you are donating.***

For sure many will be meeting during the Saturday Festival, we should arrange for a group photo , clothing optional, er, that didn't sound right ...regular or cycling wear, whatever optional. Some of us will be riding in so pics with the bikes could also be done.

There has already been some discussion of a Friday or Saturday pre-ride ride, not including the week earlier Marin area ride.
There might be considerations for Friday or Saturday lunch or evening meals.
Maybe we could meet up at Gugie's Camping Emporium and Hot Tub Time Machine for roasted marshmallows and S'Mores, and spooky bike stories For some, agricultural herbs optional or hot toddys to keep warm?

At this point I suppose we should ask how many or who are:

1. Entering the Concours and which group - pre-87 original or pre-87 restored?

2. Displaying bike(s) in the Display group?

3. going to the Saturday pre-ride dinner, and are you bringing friends or family?

4. Doing any other activities while there?

Copy, fill in and paste in your reply as needed.

For Example, for me:

1. Entering the Concours and which group - pre-87 original or pre-87 restored?
----I may enter bikes in the pre-87 original or
2. Displaying bike(s) in the Display only group?
----may enter in the display only category
3. going to the Saturday pre-ride dinner, and are you bringing friends or family?
----Yes, signed up with my Brother in Law Ben coming from Portland, OR. Brother/SIL from Torrance, CA undecided so far, Wife, daughter and SIL not coming
4. Doing any other activities while there?
----Since I'm not doing the Coastal route (want to but not terribly ready for all the climbs) I may drive out to Cambria and ride Cambria to Cayoucos and back on highway 1.
May try to visit the Coastal rest stops at Linn's Fruit Bin, Halter Ranch Vineyard and winery. Of course will visit the Olea Farms Olive farm during the short ride , Ummm, olive oil fries!! ,
May see the Warbirds museum near the Paso Airport.
Post ride dinner with the family since staying till Monday

I am not entering anything.

2. Displaying bike(s) in the Display group?
No

3. going to the Saturday pre-ride dinner, and are you bringing friends or family?
Yes, going to the dinner with my non riding wife.

4. Doing any other activities while there
Visit friends and enjoy the beautiful country side and wineries. Head home on Monday.

The short route is about all I can do at this point. I am going to hit the mountains near here for the first of my mountain training rides. L’eroica, more like “Piangere come una bambino!”

For any and all posters in this thread, please review post #84 for the Eroica California 2018 Participant list. Review any info that pertains to you and post an update (especially if you are NOT going so I can correct that) and I'll edit the list.

I am gratified at the response of BF members and hope to assume that there are at least 10-15 more members who for some reason have not seen this thread. If you know of any, please point them here.

Eroica California 2018 - BF C&V page - plus donations question

Here's also something to consider: We have maybe 29-30 so far listed as entrants. CR has probably 20-30 as I know of so far, I'll be trying to get a count soon. So then for the two biggest (?) Classic bicycle social internet sites in the US at least, we only count for 60 of the hopefully 950-1050 riders, NOVA Eroica riders excluded. So where are the other riders talking about their bikes and riding? I do know Eroica California's Facebook page is getting a lot of comments from people new to me, the twitter page isn't very active.

I'll be there, riding the 40 mile short route (slowly) on a blue (not celeste - much deeper blue with no green)1961 Bianchi Competizione with decidedly not period correct components. I rode it for Eroica CA #1 with a 44x28 low gear - not even close to low enough. Look for the big slow guy on a blue Bianchi with a Velo Orange (TA copy) crank that is noticeably but not idiotically too small for the large rider. I'll probably be in a celeste/blue wool Bianchi -Campagnbolo jersey, and I will definitely be going very slowly (or walking) up the hills and barfing up lungs at regular intervals.

I'll be hawking stuff at the swap meet, so I most likely will not be available for a day-before ride . My non-riding wife and I will be at the evening-before dinner. Coming down from Berkeley on Friday, heading home Monday.

bikingshearer, good to have you coming, looks like a number of Berkeleyites will be there. I was at Berkeley from 78-80 doing Food Chemistry Masters and research while my wife was there 77-81 in Optometry school.

So what gearing are you going to have this time?
Tomorrow I am heading for the mountains near here to try out my low gear (32X24). This is what I am riding.

Took the Tommy out on a shakedown cruise with the new gravel tires today. This is the bitter end of the MUT alongside the James River in Amherst County VA.

42 x 28 small gear - I might be doing some walking in California

The bike has a Stronglight 99 crankset. I can go as small as a 28 tooth. The chainrings are 46/32. Gone are the days when I can spin a 52 tooth sprocket on the flats and I will coast on the down hills.

Its good to see a more typical biker posting what the Eroica experience is going to be. Still a great event and a 40 mile ride with hills is a very good achievement. Hope to see you there.

Just so everyone is on the same page, Eroica has been moved from the downtown Central Park a mile North and slightly east to the Paso Robles Event Center and Fairgrounds. All the festivities, the dinner, swap, Concours, etc. will be held there. There is also RV parking and camping there as well. There is plenty of parking for those not riding or walking in from their lodgings. I do not know if there will be a fee for parking.

As always, latest news is on the Eroica website www.eroicacalifornia.com and on Eroica California's Facebook page.

Hi, all who are still thinking of going but have not yet registered! Per the EroicaCalifornia website, registration fees are currently $150 through March 15, then they increase to $175 through March 31. On April 1, they increase to $200.

So if you want to go and save some dough, register ASAP before the fee increase. If you have friends who haven't yet decided, let them know about this and give them a firm nudge. We really want to see an increase from the 850 riders of last year. Same for the new Nova Eroica event, held this year only in conjunction with the regular Eroica ride but not riding together at any time.

Hope to see you all there!

The Eroica website is schizophrenic about this.
The "Registration" page says that the first period ($150) ends on March 15.
The "Registration Info" page says the first period ($150) ends on March 31st.
Apparently you have found yet another page that states that there is a $175 period between the 15th and the 31st.
Brent (who is probably attending)

Agreed! Some parts haven't been updated, my mistake. I quoted the regulations page but now note it is the 2017 dates and pricing mentioned plus the dates end at April 7, which was last year's ride date:
REGULATION. EROICA CALIFORNIA | PASO ROBLES CA | 14-15 APRIL 2018

"Art. 5 – Registration
The registration process will begin on September 1, 2017 at 6:00am California time and applicants who registered their email address at EROICA CALIFORNIA | PASO ROBLES CA | 14-15 APRIL 2018 will receive the latest news and first chance to register for the event.
The cost to participate in Eroica California varies according to the following dates:
Registration fee Sept 15th through 30st Sep: $130
Registration fee from 1st October through 15th March: $150
Registration fee from 16th March through 31th March: $175
Registration fee from 1st April through 7th April: $200

Each individual will have 3 days to complete his or her registration and payment process. Enrollment in the Eroica California event shall be granted on a first come first serve basis. After the Eroica California registration list has reached its maximum capacity of 1,500 participants, the registration process will be closed. If additional slots are still available after the initial registration period, registration will be extended 7 days."

REGISTRATION. EROICA CALIFORNIA | PASO ROBLES CA | 14-15 APRIL 2018 page gives the same March 15th, 2018 but no info beyond:
"FIRST PERIOD
First Registration Period: October 5th, 2017 - 15th March, 2018, $150. "

Finally, the Registration info page I think gives the most correct info because it specifies the particular 2018 dates. I'll email Wesley, the organizer, and have him give me the correct dates and try to get it all consistent. Thanks for the correction:

more info registration

Hi joesch, glad to have you with us. Can you provide your info on roughly where you're coming from, which route and which of the 4 eligible bikes you'll be riding? Thanks!

So with five weeks to go, a quick update. Looks like 30 for sure now and I just PM'ed a couple of members who I believe are also going.

We have had three donations so far from myself, gugie and KennethC totaling $200.

Went out for a ride with @Andy_K and @vitaly66. While riding I realized that my Lotus Classique meets Eroica requirements, if I change the pedals. That's not my first option, as I have a frame at powder coater right now, but it's nice to know I have a backup.

30! Good tall number, and counting. Out of that, 13 have requested invite to the BF Eroica 2018 google group that Neal Lerner @nlerner) put together. I can understand if you don't want to publish your personal information, but the Google Groups thing is a great way to get updates on what other BF members are doing for the Eroica weekend. It's a social event, so I can't imagine many reasons to keep incognito. I've enjoyed just about every 1:1 meeting with other BF C&V members, can't think of any that I really wish I hadn't met.

To join, all you need to do is PM @nlerner and give him an email address to attach to this group. You can easily set it up so that updates come to you immediately. You can turn that feature on and off, so if you want to know where "everybody" is meeting up, for example, turn it on for the weekend, turn it off later, and come visit for updates when and if you want to.

Bikes: Too many, but sometimes not enough.

I'll be there, riding the coastal route on a 1976 Centurion. I just need to decide between the blue (Pro Tour), or the orange (Semi Pro). I guess it depends how much walking I'm willing to do. :-)
