Anyone have experience with both?

The Fat Frank is $8.50 and 15g less per tire. Yup, i just used a 1.8% weight difference as a way to separate thr two. I get the weight difference is meaningless.

So are Big Apple tires worth the extra $17? Just trying to jnderstand why there are 2 offerings by Schwalbe which sem so similar(balloon 2.35 width, similar weight).
Tread is different, for what its worth.

Any opinions to separate the two?...otherwise i guess ill just go with the cheaper option.

My wife and I use the Fat Franks on her Stumpjumper and my Miyata.

In addition, I use Big Apples on my Fargo. Again, they have been great tires.

I personally can't tell the difference between the two. The Big Apples may roll a bit better, but that might just be the sizing, air pressure etc.

Where did you see the Fat Franks for $8.50?

I'm cooking up another inexpensive mtb project and I could use a set.

I haven’t used the FF but I do like Big Apples and don’t have anything bad to say about them.

Running Kojaks on our tandem now and like them too. They are lighter. But I saw a review recently that said they have high rolling resistance. Not sure why and I didn’t notice, but we are not a fast team.

Dont think ive seen the miyata before- nice! Thats similar to what im doing- single speed mtb conversion with a chrome ross mt hood(with chainatray brake) frame i picked up from the forum.

Thanks, the Miyata has been a fun bike. Great for fishing down at the river.

No worries on the $8.50. I thought I was going to get some on the cheap.

FWIW I found the Fat Franks recently for $28.95 a while ago on Amazon.

Seemed like a decent price.

I enjoy the Fat Franks..they sure do absorb city street debris and potholes, riding off curbs etc

I've used Fat Franks for several builds for friends, and one build with Big Bens, but haven't spent much time on them myself. I felt that Fat Franks were a little more plush, but couldn't assert that with any scientific confidence. I used Fat Franks more purely because they were the least expensive 2.35" option.

I know this is a very old thread, but mstateglfr, how did those Fat Franks work out for you? My Big Apples are ready for retirement and I wouldn't mind saving a few bucks on a comparable Schwalbe replacement.

They were great. I pulled em off the bike and sold the frame since I barely used it. Maybe 15 miles over 18 months. But the tires were awesome. Months between tiding and I wouldnt even pump the tires up- the size is great!
