CL Ad... Wait a second...

Came across this CL ad on the PDX site. The picture sure looks a lot like Kurt's chrome Paramount's. And his driveway, to boot.

That's @cudak888 's picture and Paramounts. I'd recognize the green trash bin in the background anywhere!

At least the CLister is not trying to pass off Kurt's Paramount as his/her's to sell. I've had CListers post a picture of one of my bikes offered for sale!

Thanks for the tag, Bob. We'll see how long the listing will last now that a DMCA report has been filed.

Hilariously, he can't even write decent copy for his ad promising great photos and copy. Errrrr, +Copy.

Give him a break, he probably copied the ad text from somewhere else too.

Exactly, at least use your own photo's if you're claiming to be a photographer!

Would anyone really pay $50 for someone to wipe down a used bike and list it on CL?

If so, I have to admire the concept. His execution however is obviously lacking.

Click on the "more ads by this user" tab in the listing and you can see examples of his "work".

The dude also loves unnecessary capitalization and hates apostrophes. Here's the ad text for posterity:

NEED to Sell your bike? Need a AD Writer that's a bike tech? Need GREAT high Definition Pictures.Im Currently a retired guy that Hunts+Sells Estate Clearances for Bicycles. Ill Photograph+Write your Bicycle AD for 20.00 and run it on my account till it sells. You take the calls+Show the Bike. If it needs Detailling+Cleaning+Tuning Ill do that also for 50.00+Ad Pictures.Youll have to get it here,my house.

I was flattered that someone stole my pics for an ad.

To be fair, they didn’t say they were the exact bags in the sale.

FWIW- I got my Stumpjumper from and ad with a stock pic in it.

Depending on what the guy does, and what is included, it may well be worth it. Hopefully he tears apart the hubs, replaces cones, bearings and grease, same for the bottom bracket and headset. Cleans and lubes everything. New bar tape, new top of the line tires

There are some bike flippers that work in the $100 range. Snag a $50 bike from a police auction. Swap seats and etc, clean it up and resell for $100.

And, it has been frequently pointed out for a more expensive bike, a good cleaning may be the difference between a $300 bike and a $700 bike.

Maybe trolling for addresses of vintage bikes to pick up when nobody's home?

Assuming that his "detailing+cleaning+tuning" means a wipe-down and maybe adjusting brakes/DR, which seems much more likely, I still wonder if anyone actually goes for that. For $50.

In other words, is that ad just a pipe dream of the guy who doesn't write very good ads, and doesn't take his own pictures or doesn't have any bikes to photograph, or did he see that somewhere from someone who could actually command $50 for it?

Those and the picture's rights, belong to cudak888, they are chrome Schwinn Paramounts that he restored. Kurt is one of the really good guys in C&V. Visit Velo-Base sometime and learn some great C&V knowledge that has been accumulated there.

Our local police offer their lobby, with taped, close circuit monitoring to complete CL sales. Haven't used it yet, but seems a good option. Don

Yep. Some of his other ads are a bit interesting.

I might pay him a visit- he's less than 2 miles from me, closer than my favorite doughnut shop.

Here you go: dot donuts | Vancouver, WA | Portland, OR | Fisher's Landing | Doughnuts
Fresh every morning. They close when they sell out. I've gone by at 12 noon and they're ready to lock the doors.
