What the heck goes here? There is a matching threaded hole on the other blade.

There were thingies on the front axle to hook on those screws as a safety device to keep the wheel from coming out of the skewer was loose. These were sort of a more complicated "Lawyer Lips" on forkends.

Remove the screws. No reason for them to be there.

I like to replace the big cheese head screws with something nice and stainless like this so there's not a big gaping hole there.

@FBOATSB -- The holes on my '84 were pretty small. Plus they're on the inside of the fork... not exactly a high-visibility area. Once gone I never had cause to give 'em a second thought.
