Well one positive thing that came out of this mishap is that it's an educational situation for some - I never knew this could happen. Also didnt know frame builders BITD saved money by using seamed HTs. Seems like a poor way to save a small amount of money.

As far as what could go wrong?
A sheared HT shouldn't be catastrophic. Gradually loosening headset? Perhaps the biggest concern is whether the TT and DT are also weakened. Watch them. |

I would also note that this offers a technique you could use going forward -- whenever you take a picture of the finished bike make sure the handlebars are obscuring the unfortunate part of the head tube. |
