New tyres in 26 x 1 3/8 - what to choose?
Alright, so it's about time I got my Superbe a set of matching tyres. Right now it's got a mangy looking tanwall Michelin World Tour on the front, and an extremely dry rotted Raleigh Record on the back.
Records are still available new through Raleigh UK. They're the original spec to the bike, and I like the all original look. They still sell World Tours too, and I've no complaint about how my old one rides. And then Schwalbe also makes Marathons in this size.
I figure the Raleigh branded tyres are probably the worst, but between Marathons and the World Tours I'm not sure which one rides better. The tyres I'm on now have never punctured so I'm not worried about that.
What would you lot pick?

^ +1. For a very different option, Grand Bois in Japan usually sells some interesting 590mm tires on their website.

If your bike is brown or green Schwalbes cream colored Delta Cruisers look very good ;- ) I rode most part of a summer on some very old amber wall Dunloop tires, I didn't replace them until I had a puncture. They looked like they might not stand up for more than a short test ride, but they did. Sports and Superbs often came with amber wall tires.

I liked the world tours. They were leagues better quality than the kendas in the same size.
i would have gotten the col de vie if they hadn't been 2x the price at the time.

I found a 74 Superbe last year and finished the overhaul by switching to a 23 tooth rear cog and replacing its failed original tires with a set of those cream colored Delta Cruisers. Looks good and they ride a lot better than I remember the Raleigh tires on the 69 Sports I rode to work & grad school back in the day. Don

SJS shows 11 choices in that size, most Schwalbes. The Marathon Plus HS440 seems to be the most expensive, the Delta Cruiser HS431 the least expensive.

I know the OP has already chosen, but wanted to say that I put the Col de la Vie on my Humber and they look good, ride nicely but are very wide section compared to original and/or most of the cheaper replacements....I actually worried about clearance a bit so be prepared for the wider tire if you get them (or if you are researching tires and read this thread).

Back in 2006 or thereabouts, the Col de la Vie was for a time the only 650B tire available here. You can still find them: a google shopping search found 25 stores carrying them, including TreeFort and BikeTiresDirect. The 650A version never was widely sold here, but a google search turns up several places that sell them. However, that's from a US perspective. I believe the OP is in the UK, so his online shopping picture is somewhat different from ours. It's easy for us to order tires direct from Japan from Grand Bois, for example.
