For this production run, I kept everything generally the same as before but I couldn't let a few things go unchanged, having had a lot of time to think about the design.

1. As mentioned earlier in this thread, I have added the M5 threads to the threaded shaft allowing use of standard threadless top caps. As with a typical threadless installation, the steerer tube/quill will need to be cut a few millimeters short of the top of the stem or a spacer will need to be installed above the stem to allow the threadless top cap to fit properly (most protrude a few millimeters on the underside). In this configuration, you could then use the top cap screw to compress the spacers (or bell zenolee ) so that they don't rattle, assuming you are using non-innicycle spacers. Probably not something most will care about but it was a simple change so why not.

2. Weight weenie'ism is an infection I'll never cure and while I was initially concerned about using aluminum for the cone/wedge, I have decided that there's little to no risk in doing so. It saves >10 grams which, combined with a steerer tube and threaded shaft trim, bring the total system weight down an even more respectable level and within a couple grams of my abandoned ultimate-weenie design that was going to have a lot of compromises. A titanium shaft could cut another a few grams and ceramic bearings would chop a few more but we're getting into overly expensive territory quickly when things start going in that direction. I think I'm happy with where it currently stands with this one modification.

That's it for changes. Expect another update from me in about 5-6 weeks. Of course, I'm happy to answer questions in the meantime and do have a few silver headsets available still. This next run has been heavily biased toward the black unit which seems to be the prevailing color preference (both of my innicycle builds have used black headsets). I'm also continuing to toy with stem ideas though my focus has recently been diverted back to my thru axle fork project with the completion of a new kit for some popular Trek bikes:

It looks so much better sitting on the small head tube and looks almost like a quill on steroids. I agree someone needs to try figure out who builds these then import them into the states.

Okay, i've got to deck my trek out with my carbon wheelset and do a photoshoot sometime! That setup is wild though. Those wheels and those pedals? Huh.

When things go live on amazon again, I'll have to drop a review. Bike has been on my kickr for a bit but it's performed flawlessly outdoors as well. I'm likely going to use that bike more outdoors as the cooler weather sets in say october ish so it'll get a fair amount more use outdoors.

I have a pair of clipless I ride too but I also live in the city so I opt to push flat pedals because I've have a lot of "close encounters" and more than one love tap from cars. I just find it to be safer.

This is genius and the best I've seen. Need to grab a couple.

A question for Joe or Jack:
I'm having trouble with slippage of stems on the steerer.
One can surmise the high end finish may be partially culpritave?
I did not have any carbon paste.
My other ones have some scarring when I grabbed them with channel-locks, etc.
This seems to have them well locked in, but the new one, actually installed per instructions, is clean, shiny, and the stem pivots.
No doubt you have a solution.

First, let me say that I am humbled by the enthusiastic response to this product lately. Not much more than a year ago I considered letting it die a slow death. *I* was enthusiastic about it and it had a small but vocal group of cheerleaders since the beginning, but the product wasn't getting the traction I expected/wanted/needed it to get to continue investing my time in it. Well, things have changed! And of course it comes at a time when I'm busier than ever and while nearly everything was right on this latest batch of parts, there just had to be one QC issue thrown into the mix to slow me down. That has been sorted and headsets are beginning to roll off the production line.

Interesting issue. How exactly are you getting slipping? Are the bars turning on the steerer while riding or are they just easy to pivot about the steerer in general? I hate to blame the 'other guy' but given how part of my assembly protocol involves clamping a stem to the steerer and applying a hefty amount of torque to it via the stem, I'm inclined to believe the issue is not the finish on the steerer.

The stem you are using is part of an integrated handlebar/stem, correct? Do you, or someone you know, have digital calipers to get a sense of the inner diameter of the stem clamp? I'm guessing it's off by quite a bit, or out of round, or both. Regardless, I'd start with carbon paste then perhaps move on to additional shims to tighten the fit. I can hook you up with some 0.1mm stainless to go down the latter path.

I'm just going quietly ignore the channel lock comment and act like I didn't hear that. If anyone gets into a situation where they need to apply torque to the headset during install or bearing preload, please clamp a stem onto the steerer for that purpose. Thanks in advance!

The stem is tight, but can still move on the steerer.
Stem 1, I tightened to where the threads were damaged.
I replaced it, can not get it to seize, even overtorqued.
I am not using an integrated stem/bar. Standard stem.

I know you don’t like the channel-lock thing, but it does scar up the steerer so the stem clamps on well....

Neither are tight enough to use a stem to torque down the headset on installation.
I kind of like the scarring idea as a gripper.
