Which one to sell?
I've been going back and forth on selling my '82 Trek 412 for a few years, I don't ride as much and I would rather liquidate and save towards something else. I also have my '90 Trek 930 that I powder coated and converted to drops w/brifters. Both are in great shape but i can't figure out which one i should let go. I need to pair the herd down a little bit and these guys have been getting neglected.
any input would be appreciated...
930 or
412

The 930 looks over accessorized - practical but not pretty.
Keep the pretty one.
Elegant and graceful will be valued down the road, the others are a dime-a-dozen.

the 930 has had many configurations. It was my first foray into bikes, it has a lot of sentimental value, but i just don't ride it. I used it pull my kids with and it has the attachment for the tagalong on it as well. Yes the 412 is pretty hard to find. I've only seen 1 other in person. I've seen dozens of 930s

Sell the black one. It looks like plastic.

+1 Clear them both out for something really special. (Now if I could only live by my own words)

Well if you need to "pair" down the stable, then both have to go. However, if you're just want to "pare" it down, then I'd keep the 412.

Thanks for the input..i'm sensing a trend... the 412 is sweet and I do love the Vintage Treks.

It sounds like you have a more sentimental attachment toward the 930 so I'd say keep that one. Plus you can always talk about all the work you did to make it unique.
The 412 has a more refined look which is why I think most are saying to keep that one.

i made up my mind, i posted the 930 lastnight. I rolled her out of the garage filled up the tires and took her for a spin. The magic was gone, so I won't miss this one too much. I already have a guy interested in looking at it tonight.

I think that was the clincher. If you took her out for a ride and feel the magic is gone then, well... I guess it's time.

Some basic rules I follow:
1. Does it fit? If it doesn't fit, it goes.
2. Do I have something with the same functionality, but nicer/better? If so, it goes.
3. How hard was it to find (if I regret selling it, how hard will it be to find a replacement)? Trek 412s are very common.
As my keeper fleet tends to grow, I occasionally do a "shoot out". Get the similar bikes out, ride each one of them, and decide. I did this recently with touring bikes. Two left, one stayed.

I'll be the contrarian and weigh in late. I'd keep the 930 because I know what the road conditions are like in Rochester - and you have other nice road bikes.
That said, it does look a bit small, and the bars seem much lower in relation to the saddle than on the 412. Maybe you just need a 950 that's your size.

The black one looks more practicable and useable IMO. I would sell the blue one.

I was going to ride that during the winter but I chickened out. Something about the snow and cold weather turn me off to riding till the spring.

I used to ride, regardless of the weather, regardless of snow or ice or rain or whatever... One day I went for a ride after a light snowfall. I was about a mile out of town, and I was trucking' along in the fresh snow- and all of a sudden my bike slipped out from under me. I landed in a snow bank off the side of the path. To tell the truth, it was kinda fun. I got back on and rode another 100 meters or so, my bike slipped out again... only this time I landed on ice- not snow. After another time or two of that I decided to walk the bike back to less icy ground. I was pretty ****ed up for a few weeks. I'll leave winter biking to those that enjoy that sort of thing.
