Show us your vintage steel Specialized bikes
Just finished cleaning my latest acquisition and am having a proud papa moment. Just took it out for its maiden ride and my thoughts are mixed. I like looking at it and think its great (should have gotten skin colored tires though) but it will have to take some time getting use to the way it fits. I currently ride a CX bike which is sort of upright and is very comfortable fit wise. This vintage bike is a little more stretched out the handle bars are pretty low. I might need to find a higher stem, better seat and maybe a compact bar. I also do like the steel frame and the way it rides.
Any other vintage steel Specialize frames out there? This one is a 1986 second gen Jim Mertz design Allez I believe. I'm open to other ideas on how to dress up this bike. Let's see what you got...
The angle is weird. Handle bars are not oversized

My most comfortable riding bike is my 1982 Specialized Sequoia. It's not as pristine as your Allen appears to be and the components aren't so vintage, but I really enjoy this bike. This one is the original Tim Neenan design.

I just got this lovely and well preserved Specialized Pro a few days ago. It is too small for me but I am so tempted to harvest the incredibly clean Shimano 600 eight speed group for a future project. Of course, I build only really old bikes these days, none of which would qualify for using the late eighties or early nineties stuff...

I've got an '86 and a '90 Sirrus built up. I have a 1985 Allez SE frameset hanging in the garage ready to be put back together and a 1993 Allez frame as well. For whatever reason these things have always felt just right. I put 105 miles on the 86 Sirrus this weekend.

Pictured below is my '82 Konno built Allez. Prior owner gave it a CycleArt repaint (Guards Red) with mid-80's Allez decals. Campy Record and SR bits from front to back. Tim Neenan's geometry feels very quick to me. I love riding this one.

My Rockhopper Comp converted to touring bike. Really liking it. Finding excuses to ride further when I ride. What a great bike..
