Alas, change is the law of life. I was sad when Sky moved from SD to PDX, and I'm sad now, but I'm glad I got to see Sky happy in his Portland location before this happened.
It's going to be interesting to watch this crisis unfold. People are still going to have to get their bikes fixed.

I would like one of those Look frames someday. Same with the Huffy. Hard to tell, but that Huffy in the pic looks like it might be my size...

F...ouch!
I guess I missed the thread.
Must be something in the air. I went down on a sandy corner this week, have road rash all up and down my right side and hit my shoulder hard. Couldn't get up right away. Nothing broken but I still have trouble lifting with my right hand or rolling over onto my right side. If just finished healing up from an (non bike) accident that clawed up my left side.

@gugie said it well. "This will be our Camelot. Years from now some of the younger C&Ver's will tell the tales of this place, I'm wondering who will believe it existed."
Sky seems pretty upbeat, all things considered. His plan is to focus hard on developing the Velocult brand online. Velocult's website used to have lots of content, blog posts, pics of cool bikes, rando and touring and cool stuff, and got lots of hits. Sky wants to bring that back up to speed again and also build off the Velocult Instagram which has lots of followers. He plans to collaborate with different companies on VC-connected products. The shop did a lot to build VC's brand, but he was fighting so hard to keep it afloat and make payroll and rent that he wasn't able to do much with the brand or VC products.
[Edit after learning some more] I talked to Sky and Anthony about their future plans. They would be really interested if we wanted to contribute some BF C&V content to the Velocult website. For example, suppose there is a cool C&V bike on BF (just suppose), we could write a blog post about it, in full bike geek mode, and provide some photos, in full bike porn style. It really wouldn't be too different from what we do on BFCV already, I'd help with the formatting/editing, etc. Post goes on Velocult's blog, bike gets immortalized, we help keep the VC flame burning and who knows, maybe brick and mortar creeps back into the picture someday. I have some ideas about that, at the moment Sky would rather remove his own wisdom teeth with a 13T cog than think about a future physical shop, but I firmly believe that brands need a physical presence and maybe that will sink in.
A commenter on another forum:
" I consider the time when Velo Cult moved in to be the high point of New Portland. A synthesis of do-it-yourself bike culture, beer culture and camaraderie in a one-of-a-kind space. When Velo Cult arrived here in town in seemed as if cool , creative things were happening here every day. The sad day when this shop closes down will bookend this era and replace it with one marked with more cracker-box condos, corporate retail culture and people circling the block looking for parking spaces. Hopefully we can get our mojo back, and turn the tide against the onslaught of fakery and plastic but until then lets raise our glasses to the last days of Velo Cult. "
Now, turning our attention to the opportunity . . . because inside every C&V'er is a little bit of vulture . . . what would be interesting to buy during the liquidation? I was musing over the wall covered with bike tools and thinking hmm, isn't there something I need here. [Edit] Wifely permission pending, I already know I'm buying something - okay it isn't sexy bike stuff, but a commercial undercounter dishwasher is a handy thing to have. Wife wants me to polish it up all pretty; I haven't told her about the Velocult sticker that will be on the front.

Oh, turns out this may not actually be the end of Velocirque. I know a micro-brewery nearby that would love to host a C&V bike show and has the space for it . . . and Velocult wants to keep putting on Portland bike shows, rides, swaps, so the stars might just align.
Anyway, blowout farewell party tomorrow (Sat July 28) starting around 6 pm ish. Repeat for emphasis: farewell blowout party Saturday July 28 starting around 6 pm ish. PDX BFers take note.
We’re going to finish off VC’s beer and empty VC’s stock of T-shirts, drink and party, pretend like its the high point of 2012 when Velocult opened. We’ll dance on the deck of the Titanic and in the halls of Camelot, and there’ll be no tomorrow, no shop closing, no iceberg, just the raddest bike shop-tavern-friendship place the PDX and C&V bike community has ever known.
See you there!

All I can say is that's it's a hell of a time to dislocate a shoulder...

That's for sure. Really sorry to hear. I joined the Titanium Elbow Club four years ago July 2nd thanks to a car-bike/me interaction. Boy was that a fun drugged-up Independence Day (lying in bed...). What's on TV while one is bored? The Tour de France....

On the 11th we may or may not be able to stop at VC. The liquidation sale may not last that long. We'll play it by ear.

Bummer, that was a cool shop. And gugie... ouch! Heal up quick. I suppose that means no North Trask River ride this year.
Anyway, one shop closes, and another one opens:
https://www.goldenpliers.com/
Haven't checked it out yet, but looks promising.

Stopped by VC for the blowout, it was in fine form as one would expect. Had a drink, spoke with @jyl and another couple who attend Velocirque with her gorgeous Landshark. Said goodbye to Sky, Got a shirt and moved along, another good memory of a good time.
