The one that got away.

30 years ago I purchased my first new road bike...a pearl white Miele with Campagnolo bits...it lasted for about 6 months before it was stolen. I've had many bikes since, but I've always kept looking for another...never seemed to find just the right one. Miele flooded the Toronto market with reasonably priced italianesque road bikes but many, as most brands do, were low to middle market bikes.
Yesterday I picked up what I've been looking for. Pearl white, Columbus sl with pantographing. I've been collecting bits for a special build for a while...this bike got the kitchen sink. I took it out for a 20k spin after building her up...fun, solid and smooth. Some bits will get changed out, like the cranks and criterium bars but otherwise I'm pretty pleased. Centaur mechanicals, record brakes, wound up carbon forks, spinergy front and khamsin rear shod with gravel king 23s. https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...2fb7a9203e.jpg

Thanks! I compounded and polished the paint...it turned out surprisingly well. It had a bunch of the usual commuter bike scrapes that faded/disappeared.

Had an oopsy moment with some acetone that was being used to clean off some grease from the build...oh well, I like it like that...:-)

The acetone smudged the decals that were applied above the mieles paint. I removed them. Someone's selling original miele decals locally if I have urge to label it again.

Probably its last iteration for now. Changed crankset to centaur, stem to deda and handlebars to deda piega polished. Old school 85-87 miele Columbus sl built w campy centaur 10 speed, campy pro fit pedals and some carbon bits. https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...3f541eccce.jpg

Nice!

I have a bike I foolishly sold several years ago that I want to replace too. One day....

Very nice... I actually like the no decal look. My Columbus Miele is decalless too.

I'd buy 'em just in case. The day he sells the last one is the day before you decide you want decals.

Very nice bike, love the white. Great story, and good to hear that you really can go back.

I agree with ex pres. Unfortunate they were messed up but you are all in anyway and $28 is not much. Nice looking bike and paint.

Thanks for the comments...Ok, getting the decals.
