About 20 years ago, I lent this to a buddy who rode it for awhile until he started having kids. Last I heard, he had given it to a nephew who took it to college in Iowa. I assumed that was the end of it.
A few months back, he called me and mentioned that he had started riding again. I asked him what he was riding and he sent this pic:
I immediately told him to lower the stem. Hoping to do a couple of rides with him once he gets some fitness.

Here is a "Wizard" frame built by Brian Baylis and Mike Howard in the early 70s, this is S/N #13.
I bought it in 1996 for $400 buck, complete bike. it went to Brian for some minor torch work and new paint in 1999.
I asked him to do the wildest "Laser purple" he could come up with. And the final color did not disappoint ! putting up the 2nd pic to give you a sense of the color which was extraordinary. Out in the sun it was unlike any other purple I've ever seen.
I rode this bike for 20 years and the paint still looked great. Sold it for a very attractive price. So 20 years of riding and got out cash positive.
Fondly remembered. It rode as "fast" as it looked. Brian was the best. Still is, in fact.

Hmm, I never posted the Grape Ape here?
1969 Sears Spyder, on that thin edge between muscle-bike and dork-mobile. After all, it's a 24-inch girl's single-speed. Still fun to show up at an event on it now and then. She has gotten fresh tires since this shoot.

currently / now most times ride a bunch of drab flat black bikes - but do have some purple bikes ... stashed away in various places
lunar mist Trek 5200 OCLV
matte purple Gary Fisher Aquila
velvet gas Schwinn Paramount PDG Series 90
also had a violet Schwinn Fair Lady - unfortunately sold last summer ... needed space and it was not getting much attention
hope to be riding the PDG90 within the next year or so ... and the Aquila also

I was up in San Francisco last year and picked up this purple and yellow water bottle at Mr. Jius, a Michelin Star Chinese restaurant in Chinatown. Now I need to find a purple and yellow bike for the water bottle! 😂

'91 Master Olympic. My photogenic dawg considers me her master. She plunked down there right before I snapped the pic.
Enough purple to qualify here?
Essentially unridden with full Althena and tubulars. Nice stablemate for my '93 blue Master Olympic. When's blue month?

Early 70s AO-8
when I picked it up it was all original except the seat; subsequently replaced the wheels as the originals were awful; same with front derailleur (not sure the Simplex plastic could ever handle the jump from 36 to 52 teeth!)
