It looks pretty. Is it the right size for you? That's what is most important about how well a bike suits you.

A Vitus 992 that came after the 979. Not as well known as the 979 but I think was one of the last lugged aluminum framed bikes in the market before pretty much, every one went to TIG welded construction. If there was anything unusual with the bike, it was the "integral" headset that had its races pressed into the one piece headstock. I think I remember some comments about the headset, a bit hard to find/replace, if they wear out (?).
I would think the 992 was an improvement in ride when compared to the 979.

Great looking bike.

The owner set it up very nicely.

If your asking us if we would snag it for a few dollars, then I think the answer is a resounding yes.

Vitus 992 is a nice bike, if you are not a heavyweight. Still more stiff than a 979. The headset bearings are needle, stronglite pop right in.

It is a 49 size: fits right for me... Conservation stauts is very good, the plastic cable plate under bottom bracket box, is there (frequently brokes). Only rubber hoods are broken.
The owner sells it for $280, he needs the money and I think is a good price. This is Argentina!

I hope the welded construction will support my 88kgs... Weldings beads are often rough and bulky, these are... how to say... slim?.

That seatpost looks awfully high.

I think there have been reports of seattube lugs breaking. Make sure you have a good amount of seatpost down in the seattube.

Do you know the Campagnolo groupset? $280 is probably well below what you can part it out and sell all the little bits for.

The problem with the seatpost lugs happened in the first gen 979s. The seatpost clamp ears tended to crack off on owners from overtightening and/or just from cycling the clamp open and close too many times. The later gen 979s and 992s did not have this problem as they switched to a stronger grub screw seatpost clamp system that was quite reliable, unless you cross thread the grub screw threaded hole on the aluminum lug for some reason.....

49 is pretty small, are you around 5’? Judging by the seatpost this bike is way too small for whoever is currently riding it.

That's a great price anywhere.

Grab it before he changes his mind.

This is a comparative drawing. I ride 49 bikes, and was good enough for me. However, tomorrow will test that.

I see size tables show 49 fits for 1,65 m. (5,5´).
But measuring the crotchs, the size varies. For instance, a 1,72 m. (5,7´) man has a 0,70 m crotch high. The formula says "crotch high x 0,65= road bike size". So, 0,70 m x 0,65 = 0,455!!!. Well... I always "fell" the bikes, fortunately I´m not a mathematician and never used that methods... What do you think?

Nice bike but too small if the seat post height is correct for the rider, imo,
