Problem with the pedals on my Lotus Unique.

I find that I have a problem with the pedals on my Lotus Unique. The heel of my shoes frequently hits the center of the crankshaft.
Is there a way I could put a spacer to move the pedal out maybe 1/4 inch? I believe these are the original pedals.

Bikes: Several, mostly not name brands.

Twp possibilities: pedal extensions, as jiangshi suggests above, or cleats.
