Question about Campagnolo Pedal Dust Caps....

When did Campy switch from metal dust caps on their quill pedals to chromed plastic? ......Or did they ever switch to plastic?
Asking because I noticed that both metal and plastic dust caps are being sold in eBay as NOS originals....

From: Columbus, Ohio

Bikes: Rivendell A.Homer Hilsen, Paramount P13, (4) Falcon bicycles, Mondia Special, Rodriguez Tandem

I don't know the year but my 1972 superleggera (black aluminum cage) had genuine Campy plastic dust covers. While the bike was locked for a short time outside a camera shop in Norfolk VA someone stole just the dustcaps!

The NOS dust caps I ordered from a biggish seller in Italy sent me chromed plastic dust caps for my Campy Superleggeri (with black aluminum cages) quill pedals. Just wondering whether what I got is legit/correct for the pedal. Otherwise they look very nice.....
He noted that they were NOS originals

The SL pedals that came on my 1978 Team Champion have plastic caps.
