ARX quill stem?

This came in a parts lot and looks pretty nice, but I can’t find any info on them. Does anyone know about these? It’s apparently 22.2, and the clamp appears to be 26.0. I fitted a 25.4 bar, and even with the clamp sides nearly touching, the bars still rotated with light effort.

Bikes: Current 79 Nishiki Custum Sport, Jeunet 620, notable previous bikes P.K. Ripper loop tail, Kawahara Laser Lite, Paramount Track full chrome, Raliegh Internatioanl, Motobecan Super Mirage. 59 Crown royak 3 speed

Nice mid level Japan stem from 1981-1984 made to go with the semi Aero ARX Suntour and Shimano component groups of the time.

Bikes: Forty of them

That's extremely cool and I've never even seen a picture of one before. I wonder how many of them are out there.

Bikes: A few. Ok, a lot

Curiously, my 1984 centurion pro tour 15 came with that exact stem. Previous owner claimed it was original. Beautiful finish and lettering.

My Semi Pro came with one, it wasn't original, but it polished up very well. I think I used it with a Nitto Noodle.

I'm pretty sure that it's one of SR's cold-forged stems, a model or two before their equally hi-end FX quill stems appeared.

It's an extremely popular design, Ambrosio offered a similar style and many others did as well.

My Miyata Six-Ten came with what I believe is SR's melt-forged equivalent of this one, the SR Custom, perhaps the most mass-produced stem ever(?).

Bikes: A green one, "Ragleigh," or something.

Yeah, looks like SR to me too. Good enough for my bike, anyway.

SR Aerox = ARX methinks.

Thanks for this info, everyone! Nice to know it’s good quality, since I have a use for it...

Huh, I found another longer one at the co-op today, and I couldn’t leave it behind for five bucks, even though I don’t really need a 115mm stem right now. Also noticed the bottom of the wedge stamped “SR” on both.
