Hi All, I purchased my EM from my LBS new. I then gravitated to MTB riding and then to a gravel bike. Easier on the body for those long rides. I recently pulled my Eddy Merckx out of a 25 year storage.
I did a teardown to gently clean everything. Any info you could provide would be awesome. Thank you. https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...590fa8675e.jpg https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...3454f0326f.jpg https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...80d16bec54.jpg https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...666d6d3fb6.jpg https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...475175a7e6.jpg https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...2d1702148a.jpg |
Pro SLX from late 1985 or early 1986, Columbus SLX and SPX tubes, Team Panasonic paint scheme, Campagnolo Victory/Triomphe group (crank dated 1985).

Thank You very much CM !
I'm looking to sell the bike as is. I do not have the front and rear tubular wheels. Could you suggest a way for me to get a fair market value for the bike ? I have the Cinelli stem and handle bars in very good condition. Thank You, Greg |
Sorry, I can't put a price on that.
But they can do it for buyers on eeebay - list the frame and parts (separately) from $1 for 10 days :) |
A friend refinished then built this 80's E.M., but with a twist. Easy to spot the 'new and latest' feature on the seat and head tubes. He had 2 of the decals specially made ;-)
https://www.flickr.com/photos/837910...ith/640130518/ Another friend just purchased the frame and will build it back up with many of the same components and the same orange tires. |
Beautiful bike, Eddy's pics are beautiful too :)

Serial #: 7 A Z 3226 7 = size 57 A = frame builder designation Z3226 = approx 1985 Probably an early Corsa, but without seeing the lug pantos can't be sure, could also be a late 'Professional' |
Thanks so much for your quick reply! Thought I got them uploaded, but apparently as a new member I cannot upload photos yet. : )

Hello thread,
I have a curious one, please take a look at attached photos below. It's a Willy Naessens team paint colors, frame is marked as Corsa Extra and there is SLX tubing sticker. Looking at bottom bracket there is marking on the right: D 5456. There appears to be number 0 beneath EM logo, but there appear to be no markings on the left at all. Frame is size 60 which I think explains the number in the middle. Also, from what I can tell this is factory paint. Anything else of interest that experts (CyclesMakaron) could add here? Is this in fact a SLX Corsa Extra? Much obliged, Nenad EDIT: I can almost discern letter "L" on the left. https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...2166584d7.jpeg Bottom bracket https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...1b0bf5d5d.jpeg Columbus SLX sticker visible https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...a66191007.jpeg Frame marked as Corsa Extra https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...010b6360c.jpeg Willy Naessens team (1993) |

Frame built in December 1992/January 1993. No tube markings (should be X or XB for Corsa Extra), no frame size markings - this could mean a frame built with a "mix" of tubes in an unusual geometry. ...and this could mean that it could indeed be a frame built for Team Willy Naessens for the 1993 season. The sticker on the steering tube and the inside of the tubes visible through the bottom bracket are worth a look. |

Hello Jacek,
as discussed, attaching photos. The paint is, as you can see, not original so the frame for sure will be going for repaint. The paint (or is it plastification) is quite thick but I have managed to get a shot at BB to discern numbers and letters. The bottom bracket reads: L0WW D3848. So this seems to fit into "WW - Strada: ~ D --- ?" criteria, awaiting your expert opinion. Hello all and Jacek, hope you all in great state!
Wanna ask about my friend's merckx he just bought, its mx leader with F3674 on the right side of BB and probably a letter M on the left. Paintjob is green. Is it produced in 95? https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...3936e89c7b.jpg https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...deeb62707f.jpg thanks in advance! |

EMC has built bicycle frames with BSC - rarely. I only found one "series" in the ~D2500 area.

Hello, I can't believe I am now part of the Merckx ownership family. This is my new bike and I haven't seen this paint scheme anywhere and have no idea of the frames age or model name. I got this from a friend who bought the frame/fork from a mobile bike shop guy in Wisconsin. After you would pick out the frame you want, you would pick out the parts you wanted on it and he would build it for you. His name was Buzz. I tried to read thru some of the stuff but just got more confused, can anyone help me with what I have? It has Campy dropouts if that matters

This is a 1982 Professional, Columbus SL tubes.
The frame appears to have been painted out of EMC. The C designation is a mistake (should be G), 1 is the frame size (51 c-c). |

If the guy confused C and G he could also have confused 1 and 3 (although this is much more difficult)
The C stood first for the Columbus tubes in the noCorsa model, and then simply for the Corsa model - it didn't appear until 1984, while it happens by mistake in the E46xx-47xx region. |

I also have other frame that I wanna know the identity, the owner said its Corsa with Z 1495 and probably L on the left side. Is it corsa? Columbus SL? https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...754c2cc019.jpg https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...dd51bd3e15.jpg |
