Vintage TA Small Chain Ring: Metal Blocks

OK, I have a triple set of TA chainrings, and the smallest ring has these metal blocks bolted to them. I am guessing they are to prevent dropping the chain, but I am not sure.

Anyone know?

Please don't confuse ebay "asking" prices with "selling" prices. Many sellers never get their ask price. some are far from it. Value is determined once an item actually SELLS. Its easy enough to check SOLD prices.

I took them off with a 0.05 inch Allen wrench (the smallest size I have). 1.5mm was too big.

Bikes: Several, mostly not name brands.

Agree with fietsbob; these are an end-user modification. I have several TA triples but none of them have blocks like that.
