Help me identify this frame.

I know it is French and I know most of these parts are not original. I also know that it is Reynolds tubing. Is it an old Peugeot?, Motobecane? The down tube cable stops for bar end shifters and the top tube cable guides seem out of place on this frame to me. Perhaps they were added later? Someone on this forum must know by looking at that distinctive rear dropout. Thanks for any help, I would like to restore it to be more original if I can figure out what it is.https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...0bb7555b7b.jpg

Simplex rear dropouts with the unique horn. Nervex lugs. So, high end French of some sort.

Consider the possibility that the downtube stops and top tube cable guides might have been added later.

Maybe a Motobecane Grand Jubilee? Just a guess from a non-expert.

Serial number? Location thereof?

BB shell width -- 68mm? 70mm?

BB shell threading -- French? Swiss? ISO?

Seatpost diameter -- 27.2mm? (with 28.6mm seat tube OD -- would indicate non-French origin)
26.6mm (with 28.0mm seat tube OD -- consistent with French "hard metric" dimensions)?

Whatever it is, I see a lot to like. :)

My first guess would also be Peugeot.

From the details shown it looks like a PX-10 to me. Same stay treatment at dropout, same seat stay treatment at seat cluster. Same fork crown, dropouts, and lugs.
Yes, cable guides and cable stops brazed on later.

I've seen a couple of PX-10s that look like it.

The horned Simplex dropouts appear to have been discontinued in the late 1960s, as they are present in the 1964 catalogue not not listed in the 1971 literature. Huret's were discontinued by the mid-1960s. Given this time frame, I would agree that the cable stops appear to be a later addition, prior to the repaint. Awaiting previously requested S/N info.

Bottom Bracket shell is 68mm wide and has French threading. Seat tube O.D. is 28mm and seat post diameter is 26.2. I have looked in all the usual places and can not find any serial number type markings. Perhaps the paint is to thick. I did notice inside the head tube that there does not seem to be any holes where a head badge would have been mounted which seems inconsistent to me for a frame of this vintage.

I think PX-10s of this vintage had a riveted plaque on the bottom bracket for the serial number. Any signs of two rivet holes on the bottom bracket? About 1.5" apart?

Sure enough there are two little holes horizontal on the BB shell.(see photo) There was a BB cable guide covering them up, but that was probably something added later, probably had those clamp on cable guides on top of the BB originallyhttps://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...bf67b4c263.jpg
I would guess.

You could check for the hardwood plug at the south end of the steerer.

There is a wooden plug at the bottom of the steer tube. I figured it was just something someone pounded in there to keep dirt and water out. Does it have some significance?

The wooden plug and thick fork crown walls also point to PX-10.
