Can you give the the serial number? I’d like to look it up and see if it would work for me.

New forum participant with a couple of old road bikes.

I believe I have a Trek TX900, second owner. And it's time to sell it.

A school chum sold it to me in 1980 or 1981 after he rode it extensively for a few years. I put many miles on it in the riding months while I lived in Minneapolis. I moved to Atlanta late 1983 to be able to ride more and to try to get fast enough to join a racing team. The good ol' boys were hugely unfriendly to bicyclists so i gave up the pursuit. The bike has not really been ridden since late 1984.

It's unlikely I will ever ride the bike again so someone else should enjoy it.

It has lots of Campagnolo Record parts like brakes, derailleurs, pedals, Mavic rims that have seen better days, Cinelli handle bars and I believe seat post. I think the hubs may be Campy too. Black paint, Colombus tube frame has the fast back geometry. Don't recall the size but my inseam is 30" and the bike just very slightly large for me.

The only thing I have changed is the rear sprocket and I may have the original. I don't recall brands. I also have Campy cone wrenches. I used to do all my work on the bike and would clean and lube all bearings at least twice a season.

Any idea what a fair value is for a bike like this?

Well, here is the eBay ad for the one I bought almost 2 years ago. No bids, and I drove up and paid 550.00 cash for it, bike was damn near perfect. Time of year and large frame my have held it back a bit.

We need pictures to do an appraisal especially of the drive side (and complete bike as well). If in good shape, $500 ish is around right for a Trek TX 900 if in good condition and with suitable high quality parts. The wheels on this are beat which will hurt the value.

This was Trek's best racing bike in the late 70s and it is a fairly rare bike. I own one. It's a great bike. You should find the serial number and go to the vintage Trek website. That will give you the info you need on the bike and it's size. To sell it you will need to be able to provide more info (and many more pics) than you have here.

High on the list of Trek rarities. That said, there's been some long time listings for a like few on ebay -no takers. Could be any number of reasons but desirability is in the frame condition and if in original factory finish.

The components are secondary valuation and really doesn't matter for the sake of this particular frame.

Currently the market for vintage lightweights is soft but for premium and rare models, and providing this TX900 checks out as nice and original, frameset could pull $400-$500.

Parts sold seperately could fetch $250-$300.

Yeah sorry, only a pic of the ad, but I can post those other pics if you wish. Bike isn’t the same any more, sold the rims, tires, stem, freewheel, and saddle to other forum members. I then replaced the sold components with ones I preferred, that were sitting in my basement. Net the bike cost me 25 dollars, in 2017.
First test ride of bike as it is today, I did adjust the bars down after that ride.

Lots of great rides on this bike! Friend and former owner thought nothing of hopping on in Des Moines and riding to Iowa City with only an toothbrush and a smile.

I used to ride daily from lake Calhoun to Deephaven and sit on the lifeguard chair at Lake Minnetonka before heading home10 minutes later

Also rode to st Paul quite a bit. Yeah she was qute

i got got pretty good at fixing flats in no time flat. ;-)

Funny, I remember some of my best rides started in a totally unmotivated state. Ya get goin’ and things loosen up a bit and ya crank down. Then some spinning to keep it loose and there was an overall groove that develops and ya start payin’ attention to landmarks and timings and before ya know it you gotta a really fine ride

I have a second road bike and I have no idea what it is. It’s pretty well sorted, has some Campy parts including wide flange hubs. Rear derailleur is Campr Rally, hubs May be too. Crank is something else. cCampy brakes

frame too big, so I’ll sell it too
