I haven't even changed the shift cables in 100k miles. Try that with brifters... |

Anyone else see it? |
All the "in-house" pics were inop for a while earlier. They're back now.

Good, good, good.

I have ZERO bikes that would not have a place in this thread. Stooopid me, I've been photographing around all the patina/beausage, and/or photoshopping it out. Time to review / re-shoot......

I started the thread so I should contribute.
Picked up this Frejus for a couple of components, because the seller said it was in bad shape. After seeing it in person I may just put it in the list of projects for ‘down the road’. https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...e47eb95f5.jpeg https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...190da37e1.jpeg https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...8e96888c1.jpeg |
Man, I'm loving this thread much more than I expected to.
Here is my patina'd-est bike, my 1971 Raleigh Super Course. The pictures are not recent. I have new wheels and drivetrain on it, and they don't fit into this thread. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/ri...w1994-h1502-no https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/0G...w1600-h1200-no https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/lR...w1600-h1200-no https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/EJ...w2044-h1532-no https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/5S...w2044-h1532-no |

Can you please tell us more about this bike
The story begins here. As noted, it's a 1981 Schwinn Superior. It has a faded sticker from a shop in Baton Rogue, spent time in San Franciso, and now is in Chicago. The original fork apparently "fell apart one day" and by the time I got the frame it had an incorrect 27" fork instead of 700c. I had a Tange fork in my stash and coincidentally Tange was also OEM for the Superior - what are the chances?! The fork was a little long, so I have a spacer in there just like "Big Mig" The drivetrain is 8-sp Tricolor (mostly). Shifters are Simplex/Shimano indexed. Brakes are some recent Shimano mid-reach jobbies. I did the old front to rear switcheroo so I could run the nutted rear. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...ea2f622f_k.jpg The seat tube features a "speed hole" which is now covered with JB Weld "for safety" https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...7dd909a2_k.jpg https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...d2584c76_k.jpg The rest of the bits are personal favs (Stronglight headset, flight saddle). The stem is a Nitto "Specialized" from. $5 police auction bike. Overall, it fits like a glove and rides like a dream. I've put almost 4K miles on it since I got it in late 2017. Completely changed my mind about Schwinns. |

c.2000 B17 (purchased from Sheldon Brown at Harris during the Great Brooks Saddle Panic of that year) with auxiliary rivet pulling it back into shape after it tore under the original right front rivet. So far so good. The Carradice Nelson longflap was bought from Rivendell c.1998, before Baggins Bags or Sackville had been thought of.
https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...7b1f7c4057.jpg I wrapped these bars with orange Tressostar in 2002 while I awaited the frame's completion. As an experiment, I have kept this bar wrap going, which included removing it and re-wrapping it when I let the bike fall over and bend a handlebar. Many, many coats of shellac, and you can see the difference in the hoods where my gloves contact them. https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...bdb60ef538.jpg |
Beausage is a thing? Is that like sausage? So all my bikes just went from beater to beausage? OK works for me.
