Only if he grinds off part of the big tab on each cog and even then he still needs the Uniglide screw-on cog to hold everything together.

He stated: "I have a 7 speed Shimano Sante group on my 1988 Miyata Twelve Hundred. Replacement cassettes are insanely expensive. Wondering whether spacing between 7 and 8 speed cogs is the same. If so, I would switch out the 7 speed uniglide hub for an 8 speed hyperglide hub, slap on an 8 speed cassette and use the lower limit screw on the RD to avoid the smallest cog. Has anyone done this?"

Thus it appears he does NOT have a Hyperglide body yet. The link I provided is to a body that can use either Uniglide or Hyperglide cogs without having to grind off anything on the Heyperglide cogs.

Cheers

right, i have read the entire thread. but, i don't think he really knows what he has, yet, either. admittedly, i'm assuming his 7spd hub should atleast be like my 105 given they are of the same age. as well, dddd hasn't replied with confirmation on his hub.

but, i've looked it up on the web, too. i've only seen the sante as UG compatible. hard to tell from some of the pics, though. and, sometimes people just don't know what they have.....like me...haha

at any rate, i do hope revcp has a hybrid. it is a nice deal

@Miele Man

well, shucks....you may be right. i can't find any reference to sante having ever been HG compatible from stock.....though, they can be easily converted. i was under the impression when shimano started going to 7spd, the freehubs were moving from UG to HG...the in between phase being hybrid hubs

makes me wonder if my 105 hub wasn't a conversion. i did get wheel used in a trade, and the guy was a tinkerer

I finally checked the 7s freehub body on my Circuit, it's simply UG and the HG cassette has been modified to fit.

HG didn't appear until 1989, so it all makes sense to me since my Circuit's gruppo is dated late 1986 (LL code).
