Miyata Three Ten

Freebie I picked up today. Needs one of the shifter cables replaced and a rear tire but other than that pretty solid. It would seem to be too small for my over six foot frame but standing over it I fit perfectly at the crotch. Might be a keeper, we'll see. Interesting color.https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...efaa8e3c07.jpg

That's a cool one, I had an '84 that passed through my chaos lab.
I've been delving into bike geometry and fit pretty deeply, looking forward to seeing your set up!

I am not a big fan of turkey levers or stem shifters but those are easily changed and Free. Miyata. Cream Headtube - SCORE nicely done OP

Those are sweet riders!
Sweet enough to overlook the shift position and chicken levers!
They will add diversity and a bit of interest when ridden in rotation with your other rides!
You may find that the next rider of this doesn’t like down tube shifters or can’t use them comfortably anymore and this just what he/she is looking for...

Pretty!

I think that's an 86. Should have come with symmetric shifters.

Shimano S.I.S. Where are those Miyata catalogs?

Thanks! Hey if it is an '86 why are those shifters up high and the color combination not listed? Also, How difficult is it to remove the chicken levers?

Two(2) screws! Put levers away somewhere...

roadbikeChris 10-19-19 04:03 PM

This will need attention!

You can remove the bolt and cut the end of the protruding shaft to be flush with the lever bodies. With new hoods, nobody would ever notice.

Hobbiano 10-19-19 04:24 PM

It seems to have the brazed on boss for the Suntour symmetric shifters. So someone retrofitted the stem shifters at some point.

Literally Greek to me! I tend to get the work done at the shop.

The shifters were swapped out, but the color? Good question.

This color combination is listed: "Cream Teal with Silver head tube"; and shown in a little inset photo:

but it doesn't match exactly. Hmm...

Right the head tube isn't silver it is white.

Dumb idea....but it is what it is.

Nice bike. I let mine go this spring in a purge to get to fewer bikes. I did keep the comphy vetta saddle though. https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...0e17f5fc2.jpeg

roadbikeChris 10-19-19 08:45 PM

Thats a beauty!! I just think the bike is to small for me I look like a caveman on a clown bike!!!

rgvg 10-20-19 10:14 PM

You can verify the year by checking the serial number under the bottom bracket. However, symmetric shifters were on the 84,85 and 86 models. Decals on your bike look like 86.

Was not indexed, so I suppose if the owner wanted SIS on it, may have needed to use those shifters, which I think must have been some kind of mod as well because I would have thought stem shifters were out of style by then.

ramzilla 10-20-19 10:23 PM

Please. Set that bike free. Ditch the drop bars and, convert it to upright handlebars!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

polymorphself 10-21-19 07:48 PM

A really awesome bike! Definitely a sweet spot in the lineup. I just got mine back on the road and snapped some photos so I'll take this opp to show it off :p
