That's some engineering
Saw this while strolling around SOHO last weekend. Thought I'd share here. Anyone else got examples of "practical" engineering like this where no welding is involved?

They say that measuring today's frames by C-to-T of the seat tube is not a very accurate way to size a frame.
I never believed them until now! :lol: |
these seem to be hyperlocal, and from what I hear are being done mainly by one shop? I see them most around lower manhattan - hardly ever over the bridge in brooklyn - and they're a huge hit for getting kids to school long after they've outgrown the conventional options.

I can remember seeing a couple of those double-decker bikes, back in the early 70s. This was in the Pittsburgh, PA area, where there were plenty of crazy people, some with tools. 😁 I guess I just never felt the need to fall, even further than normal. 🙄😉

Saw the double deckers, even triple in Portland OR in the 2010 time frame. Supports keeping Portland weird.

How about a utility bike made from bolting a swingarm onto another frame's dropouts? I don't think there's welding but I have no closeup of the BB area where that tube comes forward from the rear part.

I'm kinda partial to my own K-Mart triple, as I call it; a Fuji-branded Sugino Maxy II double crank with a SunTour 22T freewheel cog bolted up.

Soubitez BB generator on my Cimarron, since removed due to fender installation, and a warranty broken Pletscher modded to braze-on mount.

I knew the mechanic who put the banana seat on that bike. His name is George Bliss. He did this for lots of customers. His shop was on Charles St and Washington St. He's done a lot of innovative things. I've seen kids as old as 10 or 11 on them. There are fewer such bikes in the neighborhood now, as those kids have grown, and George isn't in the neighborhood anymore.
