Early SR mountain bike info please

Anyone have an SR mountain bike? . I just brought one home from the bike exchange to fix up. I saw a pic in the web of one with a unicrown fork. Mine has an old style . If anyone has specs for this bike I would be interested. I got it as semi complete w/o wheels . it has tang head set, suntour cyclone derailleurs, and a Sugino supermaxi crank that looks like an old 6 spoke TA or Srtonglight unit.

It sounds like a circa 1983 SR Explorer. Photographs and the serial number would be a big aids in identification.

That's fine but you can still post the serial number, which will give us a head start by telling us the manufacturer and year.

O/K, here are a couple pics of the completed bike.

I am doing so many rebuilds these days that they all sort of blur together.

Since October 16 I have done a Schwinn Prologue, Greg Lemond, Black Bianchi, Green Bianchi, Gitane Gypsy mixte and the SR mtn bike.

In the works now are another Bianchi, still another Bianchi ( Japanese) and the French Mystery bike . I am trying to get these done by Nov. 22 because I am going in for a total knee replacement then and will be off my feet for a while.

Anyway , here is the SR. I found it in the back room of the Bike exchange without wheels..

Mods/ upgrades - include new and new/ used:

New wheels and 1.75" street tires

New stem and bars, brake levers, and shifters( shimano deore index on rear and suntour friction at front)

new Deore front and rear derailleurs

New 170 mm cranks and all new triple chain rings (48-39-28 )

New 14-28 tooth 7 speed hyperglide freewheel

all new bearings and grease

new cables and covers.

new brake pads

The bike was stripped and deep cleaned, paint touched up, and clear coated with Rustoleum Automotive grade clear enamel .

I love rescuing interesting old bikes. This one is s bit obscure and that is what I liked about it. Also, the original cranks are a copy of the old TA 6 spoke and I wanted to grab them for a future build.
