Freebies from my LBS
Every month or so I stop by my LBS with a six of something and we chat. They are a pretty high-speed/low drag shop, one guy races Masters on the National level, the other runs centuries as weekend therapy. Our customer base really doesn't cross, but we can ***** about customers nonetheless. While we're addressing a local ale I notice an old C'dale on the stand. It's grimey, about 20 years old. In casual conversion I ask what it needs. I'm told it needs to go to the dump, it's brifters are gummed up. I ask if they're serious, and they are. I offer to save them the trip, I'll throw it in the back of the truck.

Then they say "While your at it you can take that old Trek leaning up against the dumpster".

I love these guys.....

I am seriously jealous. Those are two nice bikes. The Cannondale with the front suspension would be most interesting to try out. Not legal for racing but that's not important. I would love to know first hand how it rides. I had a Trek 1000 (also Aluminum) and it was a nice bike. Too racy for me. I was planning on putting fatter tires on it but had limited room so I ended up selling it.
Keep us up to date with your new finds.

The Trek has a Salsa stem even.
I find it sad that the LBS would consider these bikes trash. I've seen a few LBS put bikes they don't want out front and they go away shortly after.
