Bikes: 1962 Rudge Sports, 1971 Raleigh Super Course, 1971 Raleigh Pro Track, 1974 Raleigh International, 1975 Viscount Fixie, 1982 McLean, 1996 Lemond (Ti), 2002 Burley Zydeco tandem

The limit on the number of pictures you could upload to bikeforums used to be smaller, so that's why I wasn't doing it for a long time. They increased it, right?

So I just tried it again. OK it works, but the site reduces the size of my picture.

That's hard to believe you lost pics on flickr. Back in the the old days, they told us we could have 200 free pics hosted, and they always lived by that. Always. Now, they allow a bunch more for free.

I've posted 800x1200s with no problem. I don't see the point in posting anything larger than that to a forum.

Frequently most of the photos on those old threads are lost.

I upload direct to BF or use links to Flickr albums

The OP did not mention BF specifically. Some forums other than this do not let you upload directly from your computer. Hence the problem.

That's because nobody wants to pay to store 20MP photos that were blurry when they were taken, and don't get better when you zoom in. Resizing everything to 1200x1200 and at 60% quality would be more than adequate for posting on any forum.

Bikes: '78 Raleigh Super Grand Prix, on nicer wheels.

Storage is cheap enough today that you don't need a hosting site. I keep all photos on a backed-up hard drive. No worries about "pay us for eternity or all the links you've posted will die."
It helps if you can face the fact that 90% of them aren't really worth keeping.

it's not about storing them, it's about getting them hosted so you can share them.
