1980 Miyata 710
A recent find - my size. The pictures are of the bike as I found it, uncleaned, untouched. It appears to me that the prior owner took care of this bike and likely gave up on it because of the flaw that will follow this initial group of photo's. This should be a fun project and like any new n + 1 bike should be exciting. I'm open to any suggestions and comments.

Replacement. I wouldn't ride it as is. It's hi tensile steel so inexpensive to replace or upgrade it with a chrome moly fork. The local bike co-op is also a good source for used forks if you're indifferent to color.

While the serial number may indicate that it was manufactured in 1980, this is actually a 1981 model. Miyata didn't introduce their CrMo butted tubeset until the 1981 model year and that seat tube decal was unique to the 1981 models. As for the fork, I'd use a generic replacement fork.

chrome 27" fork from Amazon or one from the co-op if you have one near. Love me some Miyata I have an 87 112 that is currently on the trainer and once owned a 912 and a Traiil runner MTB...

Bikes: Seriously downsizing.

My '81 710 started out like yours. New wheels, powdercoat, and a barnfull of parts got me here.

You guys still around??
I'm passively shopping around for my next project. Any thoughts about this Miyata 710, not too far from me?? It's been listed for months -- down from $160 to $100.
[I'm using TinyURL to avoid the filters that confound me when I try to link to commercial websites]
Many thanks in advance!
[Obviously, others are welcome to chime in with any thoughts]

That would have been helpful (if I'd done it). Thanks!

Kinda' my thinking, too.
I'm already fuzzy about what year this bike is, but if I can make a play date, I can grab the S/N. As I understand it, Miyata is pretty reliable when it comes to decoding the S/N -- at least to the manufacture year. The main 'functional' difference it seems to make is the list of OEM-spec stuff -- what I'd like to compare the actual bike to. No worries. I'll take "good, and with great potential" over "all original" at this stage in MY C&V journey.
Email sent to seller.
Thanks!

Bikes: A few but not too many. Some new, some old. High ratio of Frenchies. Metal only.
