Need advice, Sturmey X-RF8(w) locking up.

Paging Dan Burkhart ...

Did some errands today and as I started off from my first stop in 3rd gear, I got a slip-stop which cleared up when I changed gears, but started happening across the range as I continued. I put it on the stand, checked the setup and made sure it’s aligned to spec but it continues to lock up after 1/2-3/4 crank rotation in 2nd, 3rd, 6th and 7th. It pedals freely in 1st, 4th, 5th and 8th. I’m using a Sturmey thumb shifter, not the supplied twist shifter, If that matters. I have less than 100 miles on it and the only issue I’ve had is occasional freewheeling in one of the mid-ranges, maybe 4th or 5th which I was attributing to it setting in and cable stretch. On the last ride shifting was fine. Any clues before I have to seek deeper skills?
