Eroica CA 2020!

got this email just now!Save the date: September 25-27, 2020

We extend our warmest regards during these unpredictable times but are excited to share with you our rescheduled Eroica California and Nova Eroica California 2020 event date of September 25-27.

A little secret we’d like to share: September is a glorious time to ride in on the Central Coast of California! While the hills may be more golden than green, the chance of precipitation is almost nil.

Of course, we know that things can change quickly and also realize that there may be a ‘new normal’. What is clear, however, is that we can hardly wait to ride with you!

If you plan to join us in September, you needn’t do anything. Simply save the date.

Thank you from all of us at Eroica. We sincerely look forward to riding with you.

6 Months to get a bike together🤔

jackbombay 04-09-20 01:57 PM

Seems there is no option for a refund? If we can't make the new dates we lose our money?

SoccerBallXan 04-09-20 01:58 PM

Surely an optimistic time frame, but exciting none-the-less!

I believe prior conversions mentioned that they said you can also reschedule for the 2021 event. But otherwise, yes, they also said no refunds.

keithdunlop 04-09-20 02:21 PM

Unfortunately, it's now the same weekend as Lighthouse Century.

the people on the route up to the lighthouse will be mingling with them then I guess. the more social (not) distancing will feel nice to those of us that have missed routine interactions with others of a similar mind!

True. But, I'm not sure I want to ride Eroica the day after riding 100 miles on Saturday.

That's funny, because the original date was on mine.

6 months from now, you will be ready. Does the century use any of the highway between Cambria and Cayucos? The Nova Eroica is Saturday.

Spaghetti Legs 04-09-20 03:50 PM

Cino, if it happens, is 2 weeks before this. Presents a quandary for us non west coasters.

I believe all the Lighthouse routes go thru Cambria on the highway but don't go into the town.

Or an opportunity for us west coasters. I was thinking that perhaps I could ride Cino, and then @gugie, @numbernine , and others could reschedule and replan our Tour d'Eroica to ride from Kalispell, Montana down to Cambria. Let's see, that would give us 12 days between the two rides to go 1,384 miles, a mere 115 miles per day (or 1,585 miles if we wanted to go via Yellowstone). We'd be in great shape for Eroica by the time we got there!

jonwvara 04-09-20 04:34 PM

Boy, that's a daring move on the part of the organizers--the conservative choice would have been just to wait until 2021 came around. But I guess it could work out. There may be a lull between the first pass of the virus and when it circles back in the fall, as it seems fairly likely to do.

I was looking into this, is Eroica NOVA, modern groupsets?

Cino by a thousand miles. There's no way I can get away from work for both so it looks like this will be the first edition of Eroica CA that I won't attend.

Yes, and modern bikes.

Kabuki12 04-09-20 07:03 PM

I got the same email. I think a little optimistic, but what the hey. It is something to look forward to. Linn’s Here we come! The Medici is definitely ready as am I. Rich, you hear this? Fall is wonderful along the Central Coast.

No quandry. If you can't do both, do Cino. It's sooooooooooooooooooooo much better. I like Eroica, it's great to see everybody, but it's rather impersonal, whereas Cino is much more intimate.

No problem. What could possibly go wrong?

Hey, I learnt it from you, bruddah.

Thalia949 04-10-20 03:47 PM

A week before L’Eroica Gaiole. Either it sets up for a fantastic week or so of vintage riding or some travel headaches. Right now my thoughts are to do them both, would be an epic week, provided the world is in a safer and better spot in 6 months.

I sent an email to the organizers to ask if Gaiole was set for the first weekend of October. Who knows if any events will happen in Italy.

Glad to have a new date for CA. September weather in the Central Coast will be great, hardly any chance of rain.

Anyone else considering doing Italy and CA?

keithdunlop 04-15-20 05:23 PM

I'm not 100% confident that Eroica CA will actually take place in September. In California we are now talking about banning mass gathering events for the balance of the year.

This is tough. I also suspect that it will not happen. If it does happen, it also seems likely that attendance will be down. Since I have been planning to attend as a vendor, not a rider, it probably doesn't make sense for me to attend under those circumstances--even apart from very real concerns about spreading the virus around.

I haven't yet made a decision, obviously, but my inclination is to stay home and hope for better days and a successful event next spring.
