1997 Giant Kronos GS

I was looking to buy a 1997 Giant Kronos GS. Does anyone know if the cassette is a freewheel? I was interested in upgrading the drivetrain.

My 1997 specs list an MF-HG22, 7 speed, 14-28T. The MF prefix indicates a freewheel. The standard Kronos used a cassette on an RSX freehub.

My steel Peloton 7000 came with a 7 speed freewheel, it was the factory groupset on it when I purchased it, 2nd owner from new. Frame looks very similar to the Kronos.

Replaced it with a Sram Force 22 with no issues, running 28mm tires, could easily fit 30mm.

Rides super nice, what a gem.

Giant was definitely ahead of it's time, well, at least the frames built in the 90's were.
