Bikes: they change so much I'm tired of updating this

Little bummed on a missed buy.

It usually doesn’t bother me when I miss a good deal. But this popped up late last night and I had to work today. 25 miles away for $500.

Bikes: Many!

I missed a $300 7/11 EM mint condition to another BF member to some ehm... *dirty* tactics.

It was flipped the next day. Still stings!

Hmmm... All the good deals are up in Portland. But, I try to pace myself... too much to drive a 4 hour RT (or 2 day RT on the bike) to get little things.

There's a car part that popped up about a month ago. I wrote within a few hours of either posting or reposting... Still listed a month later, and not a peep from the seller.

I know how you feel. Last week I missed this Bianchi by being stupid as I waited for a day, or two, hoping the price would come down. The bike sold the next day...

But, when this one came up for sale in the evening (I do not drive at night anymore, since I hit the black bear), I sweated bullets until the next morning, when I could drive to the city, hand the cash over and bring home my new/old (nold) Marinoni (and it is just my size)...

Bikes: 2003 Lemond Alpe D' Huez... plus a " few" more :)

Great score !!!!

I missed out on a Yellow/Orange Colnago Super 1973.

It was on Ebay located in CA.

There was a BIN price of 999.00/ I asked a few questions, seller was VERY nice. Was selling it for an older friend.

I " slept" on the decision to buy or not.

I decided to BUY it.

When I contacted the buyer the next day....it was SOLD.

Lesson learned..........................when there is something you really want....or think you really want....and it is unique...BUY IT

We have all been there, and missed some great deals...But I have had SO MANY great deals!!!!! I keep reminding myself of this when a deal has past me by.......

There was a $350 USD ($500 cad) SLX de rosa in mint condition in my size that I was late to responding to this afternoon. The ad was 7 minutes old and I was apparently not the first. Oh well. I'm sure another one will come up next lifetime.

You people should be popping champagne corks compared to the gun deal I missed.
And I don't even want to talk about it

Missed out on a fantastic deal on a Grail Bike frame = Vitus aluminium frameset. Couldn't get anyone to facilitate it for me.

Oh well, I guess it just wan't meant to be.

Cheers

Bikes: A green one, "Ragleigh," or something.

There will be other bikes, if my experience is any indicator

From: 700 Ft. above sea level.

Bikes: Not as many as there were awhile ago.

Don't feel bad, I missed a nice 2002 Bianchi Brava yesterday for FIFTY DOLLARS by mere seconds! It was on FB marketplace for less than an hour. I had just been a few miles from it the day before picking up the '88 Super Sport parts bike I bought. Talk about bummed...... 🙁🙁🙁

No actually it looks almost unused. Look at those brake tracks and...oh, right, uh, yes, looks like trash. Yes.

It was going to be a flip so it's just lost cash..oh well. It's only a real loss if you planned on keeping it and riding it.

A Raleigh Professional for $100, the guy said it was all mine. Quarantine had just started and I had no income due to it. I should have spent the money, but the unknown prevented me. Kick myself everyday for it.

How about a mint Merckx with full Superbe Pro also mint for less than $500. Seller said he would not ship but then told me he was really surprised when he only got one bid

I'm in the opposite situation, there's an off-topic steel road bike frameset that's a killer deal, but I'm forcing myself to not buy it in the interest of saving money and garage space.

It has been for sale as a complete bike for months, but it was stripped down to F/F/HS and the price plummeted. It's absolutely killing me right now

Bikes: my precious steel boys

The least sexy brand possible - but it was a Tange Prestige road frame with full 600. Sold almost immediately at $30.

Also missed out on a Motobecane Grand Jubilee Mixte with the long-cage Huret Jubilee RD because the seller decided they didn't want to sell it at the last moment- which- fair enough, I wouldn't want to sell that either.

Thanks, Squirtdad. Funny thing is, the bike was listed on Kijiji, as a 52cm and I bought it just to resell. Sadly (or not), when I got it home, something did not look right. 52cm? Hmmm...

Turned out to be a 55cm, perfect for me, and it is fast. Fast as the wind. The problem is, I have to slow down frequently to allow my wind to catch up with me:-( These wheels help with the "like the wind" part but not so much with the "waiting for my wind to catch up" problem. Great and unexpected wheel set on the Marinoni...

Timely thread. I missed one today. I was the second contact, which means I was the first loser. Someone got a killer deal on an early 70's Italian.

I actually waited for the price to drop on my 1982 Medici Pro Strada for about three weeks . When it dropped I made arrangements to meet up . When I got there I was stoked as he told me he had three other people who were on their way with the cash, I was the first to get there. Three hundred bucks and I was so happy I bought it. It was even better than the pics on Craigslist. Joe

I ran into this on a couple occasions. In most cases you just ask them what their local bike shop is, call the shop and ask if they do Bikeflights. If they say yes, just have seller drop the bike off there. No effort or risk on the seller's part at all. This worked most recently for me on a nearly unused '84 Raleigh Prestige 8 states away from me.

He was just going to let people travel to him and hope they made it in time? Brutal.
