His and Hers Savoy
Only have the pic of the men's Savoy...cuz I kept it....My elderly neighbor passed away...her kids were tossing everything out...saw these bikes next to the dumpster and asked if they were throwing them away...He said yep. They belonged to his parents.....Easily cleaned up and they hold air....I gave the female one to my neighbor to ride. They aren't super nice...but to me, too beautiful to throw into the dumpster....Nice little neighbor hood cruiser, as it isn't super smooth, and it rattles a lot...but the light generator still works!!!

The Savoy bicycles I've seen have been a sister brand to Royce Union. Some of them even mentioned Union Cycle on the head badge. Like Royce Union, I've seen Savoy that were manufactured in Holland, Italy, Japan and Taiwan.

OK, pretty basic low-end, but it is disgusting that we live in a society in which perfectly serviceable bicycles, appliances, furniture, etc. are considered expendable. When I worked at Bikecology, Al Goldsmith constantly complained about the "trash culture." Almost 50 years later, the problem has only gotten worse.
I am especially saddened to see bicycles going to the dumpster, when the late, great Hans Rosling defined the difference between mere poverty and abject, hopeless, grinding poverty to be access to a bicycle.

I agree....the dumpster is right next to the house...which is 30 feet from the sidewalk...easily placed out near the sidewalk with a "free" sign, at least until the dumpster is picked up. I know they aren't treasures..but they are not trash. My neighbor was grinning ear to ear when I gave her the other Savoy. I tuned up her husband's vintage 10 speed....tires, tubes, bearings, grips etc...and was letting her use my daughter's bike to ride with him around the neighborhood. They aren't avid riders...just a few laps around the neighborhood. So this classic is perfect for her. I rode the Men's Savoy around for about 30 minutes yesterday...just enjoying the simplicity of it. I will give it away too...after I replace the wiring and see if I can upgrade the incandescent bulbs to LED...I have to see how many volts the old generator can produce... I'm running out of room for bikes at the moment...but the spouse will let me hang on to it if I'm actively tinkering with it...LOL.

Enjoy the bike, and congratulations on giving the other a second life with your neighbor.
I know Drive-side is correct, but those front-wheel spoke decorations need to be facing the same way so we can see them!
