Rust removal without damaging paint?

Frame: Mid 80's Peugeot Reynolds 501

The frame appears to have surface rust that almost feels smooth in some spots. It's all over the frame.

So far I have tried the following without success:
  • Clay bar
  • CLR
  • Meguiar's 105 cutting compound w/ DA polisher
  • Wet sanding w/2500 grit
  • WD-40
Does anyone know a product or have suggestions on how I can remove these rust specs, and then touch up afterwards?

Thanks!

From most effective to least effective:

1) Oxalic acid immersion
2) Evaporust immersion
3) Evaporust gel surface treatment
4) Vinegar surface treatment

Buy crystal oxalic acid, a wallpaper tray, and you're off...

Thanks for the suggestions. I don't necessarily have the room to do a full frame immersion so I'd love to be able to find a product that I can apply, wait and polish off, or something similar.

I used the vinegar treatment as well as evapo-rust for all of the components before polishing them and it did an amazing job, they look brand new.

I like the idea of a gel or polish that I can apply to the frame so that it actually sits on it overnight, unlike a liquid.

I may look for evapo-rust gel as I've never seen it.

Do you know of a product called "T-Cut"? I've seen it in a few videos where it's a rubbing compound but that helps remove oxidation/rust.

Evaporust works great. For areas that cannot be submerged, if you could find something to soak the Evaporust in then wrap it around the areas you cannot submerge and cover in plastic...it might work. Not as effective as a submersion but you should be able to get some results.

I've seen T Cut used by Andy of Bikeit UK. There could be an equivalent in wherever you are.

T-Cut - Car Care Products

Same exact videos I've seen. Looks promising but I don't think it's available in Canada.
