Raleigh Superbe mud flap pattern

I'm looking for a pattern for mud flaps. I only have the broken roots of the old plastic, and I'd like to make the shape roughly the same as the original. Could anyone help?

Matt

I don’t ever recall seeing metal fenders (as would have come on the Superbe) with a mud flap. Or do you have plastic Bluemels?

Any pictures of the leftovers?

I have seen metal fenders on Gazelle bicycles that used a rubber mudflap.

Here are the crunchy leftovers. There is no evidence of a rear flap, just this front. Thanks!

After a trip to the attic, I may be able to help. The is from a step-through (Ladies) model. complete with basket. The serial number (NE00xxxxxx) suggests 1980, but the SA hub says 78. There is no rear flap.

eBay can be a great help though. Example 1 and Example 2

Looks like the ones below might fit. The shape is easy enough.

I got some 1/16 inch rubber (Shor A hardness of 60) to use as a replacement. I'll try freehand cutting the shape as close to the original as I can. The only color I could find is black, so I am going for black. If the material is too flexible, it might get sucked into the tire and crumple the fender, but if it is too hard, it could snag on objects and crack or shatter.

I'll keep the thread up to date as I learn, and publish a template when I get the shape close to right.

Thanks for all the input. Matt

I’ve used vinyl baseboard for mud flaps. Just the right amount of flex and rigidity.
