Finally got this thing - Sport Shosse time trial version. I will try to restore the fork mount handlebar clamps. Also found a handlebar from a Takhion for it, that sadly has been cut down from the tips, but i have some ideas to fix it.

Junk pile has increased and decreased. Thinned the pile selling some of the lesser not so rare ones.
Sport Shosse TT is slowly getting built, luckily i have found most of the hard to find stuff by now. Also built a replica track version. What a cool thread...thanks to poster! I had a bit of a fixation on russian/soviet history, so I really enjoyed this. Much cooler than my soviet jerseys and watches.

I wish someone had a frame closer by. Have hubs, stem, derailleurs, shifters...calipers.

I visited the XB3 company in Kharkov (now Kharkiv - Ukrainian spelling) in June of 2000. The purpose was to buy a number of bicycles for pastors. The company had shown their line of bicycles at an agricultural fair outside of Kyiv. I had arrived in Ukraine a couple of weeks earlier to see where some kind of suitable bicycle might be purchased. I wasn't having much luck. Bicycles from Taiwan were just then being imported and advertised on billboards and in the Metro. I saw at the fair a XB3 model that appeared to be what we wanted and arraigned to meet company officials at their factory a couple of days later. We placed an order for 200 bicycles at $62 each. They required a down payment of half + a little more so they could pay the city to turn their electricity back on. The workers had been on a forced vacation because the company didn't have any orders. While I was there they gave me these advertisements I'll show in pictures below on single pieces of paper held in the packet. I'll show a picture of the jacket and then some of the models they were promoting. Their transition from a Soviet style of business to a capitalistic one took place later. I made a trip back in August to pick up the bicycles and help distribute them throughout Ukraine.

Best, Ben Absolutely. There is a charm to the Xb3 stuff even though most is a copy of something French or Italian. The rear derailleur has an industrial machining that is actually pretty elegant. |
Bit of a update on my junk pile. I have been mostly replacing my pile with higher end stuff, a few special order Sports in various states have been added. Ofcourse the Moskva 80 road frame being the most special one, but i did actually get another track one as well, or some parts of the frame atleast. Currently havent made any decent pictures of either.
Also built a purple Start Shosse for the summer for commuting that i now sold. Slapped some tires on it and was surprised how well it rode, even the 60cm frame wasnt that bad, i usually ride a 56-57cm frames. Its a 1987 Sport Shosse. I did actually find the same frame from 87 in 56cm size as well, but the frame is in terrible condition, head tube is cracked. Funnily enough all my Sport Shosse frames are from 87 and originally all are the same blue metallic as the time trial one i have. That red bike left such a good impression. I also sold the gold fork mount sport and now built this. Decided to complete the 1964 V552 Harkiv build. Made the decision to switch to the square taper cranks as the cottered originals are so soft and cotter pins suck. I guess 151bcd ones would be more period for a bike this old, but i only have 144bcd road cranks. I did try to keep the original chain as it measured out okay, but the shifting was terrible. Modern chain made a big improvement. So the Vittoria tubulars and chain are the only new modern parts on it. I will most likely will install new shifter/brake cables as well when the riding season starts, but will try to keep the original housings. It rides okay, even brakes suprisingly well after installing some NOS xb3 brake pads, but not really a fan of these gran sport copy xb3 derailleurs, but they look cool atleast. Those square taper cranks gave the bike a new feeling, quite suprised by this.

I always enjoy the new additions to this thread. The toe clips and the big chainring with holes drilled in the teeth certainly caught my eye on this latest one.

Found 2 Sprint frames, one from 1969 and the other is from 1984. Newer one has the quite rare one year only decor, but sadly missing the fork. 1969 one has had a rough life, luckily had most of the original parts for it waiting for a frame.

I believe those bars I have on it in these pics are either Cinelli or Titan's. I went to look but right now they are taped to the top. They've been on several years this way and can't remember exactly. Sorry
