Great to see some unique (to the West) Bicycles.

Found a almost completely unmolested 1986 Start Shosse. Even the bar wrap and tires are original. Some of the spokes have been swapped out and all of them have been soldered at some point. Luckily i have a NOS wheelset laying around so i should get this back to fully original condition. Rides suprisingly nice for one of these, brakes are terrible though, pads are rock hard.

This is an excellent thread, thanks geeteeiii for all the information! I was just gifted a mostly original Tourist in fairly typical (rough) shape. I haven't had a chance to get into it yet, but it has an aluminum riser bar, which based on Russian Wikipedia would put it in mid- to late-'80s production. Looking to restore it, but there's not a whole lot of information available in English, and my Russian is quite poor, so the info in this thread and the ample photos of other stuff coming from KVZ is invaluable.

Hello comrades! Tere päevast geeteeiii ! Fellow Estonian here, just Finland based.
A wonderful thread, lots of nostalgia, back on the memory lane 😁🙏 |
I’m so mad. Last time I was there, before the invasion, I was heading to the big swap meet by the Olympic stadium. Usually I seek out vintage Soviet posters (drink milk for strong Soviet bones) and would have paid attention to bikes this time.
Then I was distracted by an invite to revisit the space museum. https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...7bd887e6d.jpeg July weather |
geeteeiii Äki saan sinu abi paluda 🙏 Mul on ratas mida kahtlustatakse KVZ tooteks. Viitsid äki pilgu peale visata, siin samas alamfoorumis. Ma ei saa veel linke lisada...
Just asking my fellow Estonian to have a look at my possible KVZ bike here, maybe he can confirm if it really is a KVZ ☺️🙏 |
Abit of a update on the soviet junk world.
Starting with not soviet junk, but used in soviet union. De Rosa proffessional pista. It popped up on FB marketplace and i always wanted one. Its abit mangled and abused, like they usually are when found from sport clubs. Seat lug bolt ears are very toasty, these hold up abit better on the XB3 bikes as the lugs are cast. It came to me as a frameset, so it took some time to get it mostly assembled. https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...d8f7f2df58.jpg https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...6ef07cb29e.jpg https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...b8fb41923a.jpg Next, i managed to find something that i tought i might never find at a reasonable cost. A fork mounted handlebar Takhion. It was cheap and also on FB marketplace, but has some serious issues as somebody has fitted a carbon fork. I will attempt a repair on this sometime in the future. https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...d44c2a92bf.jpg https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...03e6811c8a.jpg Been also tinkering with one of my Moskva 80 olympic bikes, the road bike is on hold as i am trying to figure out what route to go for on the build. But the track bike is almost ready. This frame was repaired in XB3 factory in late 80-s, so it has a incognito paint job. I am still not quite sure what to do with the paint, it was originally red with white moskva 80 letters on the side. But the blue is really beautiful and tells a story. It had a small crack in the seatstay bridge joint, so that was repaired. I also found a correct sprint fork for it. Its also the first time i assembeled it for a test drive. Frame size is perfect for me, literally like it was made for me. Rides very well with good handling, only alot of toe overlap. Dark rims are for testing, this bike will be getting a silver wheelset. Since this frame has a frame number, i also managed to contact the son of one of the head designers who still has the factory documents, it lists who made the frame, who assembled the bike, how much does the frame flex under a certain weight and the athlete who it was built for. It also said it was red and with sprint fork and geometry. https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...5dfab5892b.jpg https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...14d0220fd7.jpg https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...0aaaccd820.jpg https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...54d32584f6.jpg |
