Unmatched Serial Number 1983 Model 620

Hi! A bike claimed to be a 1983 620 model has the following serial number:088391.
The color scheme is taupe frame with dark brown panel and head tube, which matches the description of a 1983 Model 620 on vintage-trek.com. The frame size is 50cm.
From the website database this number leads me to a 1983 Model 850. Could it be that someone repainted the Model 850 (mountain bike) into this color? Was the 620 ever in a 50cm frame size? What other useful info should I provide? Thanks!

Sorry I can't post images as new use it seems like.

Pic assist:

Just not enough resolution to make out the digits. If you could post higher-resolution versions of both pics to your album, we can re-post them here.

I see 68391 = 1983 - 19" 620

That's not a 19" frame.

The 850 frames had vertical rear dropouts and curved chainstays to accommodate 2-1/4" tires. Cantilever brake mounts would have been positioned for 26" (ETRTO/ISO 559mm) rims. Tubing was slightly oversize, with 1-1/4" down tube and 1-1/8" top tube. The 850 forks had extra-wide cast fork crowns (early production) or unicrown forks (later production) wide enough for those 2-1/4" tires.

Yeah that's not. I was working off the text in post 1 of 50cm frame.

Well we know it's a 24" frame, that helps us narrow things down.

From the photo as best we can tell, it's a dead ringer for a 1983 620 in components and ST panel + HT painting/color matching.

However, a 1983 520 matches quite well as well, minus the painting of the HT (which could have been done easily).

I only mention the 520 as no possible serial numbers of a 1983 24" 620 exist--no numbers in any combination.

Number possibilities (even slight, we must consider)
Position 1 - 0
Position 2 - 3, 6, 8
Position 3 - 3, 6, 8
Position 4 - 2, 3, 8
Position 5 - 2, 3, 5, 6, 8, 9
Position 6 - 1, 4, 7

Within two production runs, I was able to get the serial number possibilities of: 066231, 066261, 066281, 066291, 066321, and 088931. Looking at all of them, they can all be nit-picked, and I don't really like any of them, so it looks like we'll have to go with it's a 24" 1983 Trek 620 and if you like the price, condition, and fitment, then you have a nice vintage Trek, which is far from the worst thing in the world.

Serial number or not, it's a 620. I donated the same bike and livery to my friend Andy, a Foley-artist. Whenever his films need a road bike, that's what you get.
Triomphe iirc?
