Mystery Dawes tourer/road bike - frame dated 1995
Hi there
I've had this bike a while but for some reason I've recently gotten a bit obsessed with finding out what it is...
Dawes support have dated the frame to 1995 based on the serial but could only suggest that it was a road bike frameset you could buy during that period. Because of the detail on the forks I decided it was maybe a Linear but I didn't look closely enough, and someone on the Dawes group on Facebook kindly put me right - it has braze-ons/lugs and the cable's routed outside the top tube, when the Dawes racers from that era went through the tube. Back to square one.
The paint and decals aren't original as it had a respray at Woodrup in Leeds, and while they did a lovely job I've no idea how it looked before the respray (before my time).
Could it be custom - and why? There's nothing from 1995 I can find that resembles this frame accurately. Sadly I've no idea what the frame's constructed from either, as the Reynolds sticker has gone. Stripped right down it weighs almost exactly 10kg.
Thanks!
