Raleigh/Headbadge

Saw this on eBay. I have a Squirrel headbadge, can find nothing on the Squirrel, Dragon, Rhino. Any ideas? Raleigh sub-models?

Made up headbadge? I don’t know. Looks well done!

There are herons* (the creature on the original Raleigh badge) and squirrels (red, native - the grey is an invasive species - so that badge is definitely authentic!) in the UK, where Raleighs were built, but no racoons, at least not wild, and definitely no rhinos except in zoos. There are (or, well, were) dragons in Wales if you believe the myths, but Raleighs were only ever built in England and Ireland, IIRC...

Hope that helps.

Nah, they're nice badges, and good fun. I'd love to know the backstory, if there is one.

(*Herons are majestic birds, btw - I sometimes see them fishing the river that runs by the village where I live and they're a highly impressive sight.)

Okay you wiseacres! Yeah, they are really cool. I was thinking of finding a decent frame and make a faux vintage bike. Say, a Squirrel "Super-Nutter" or a Raccoon "Trash-Thrasher". The stupid ideas are endless! If done right it would keep folks guessing a bit. I have several frames with crap paint that I could redo.

I saw a squirrel bike and asked about it probably 20+ years ago, just cause I liked the name. It looked just like any other basic black 3sp utilitarian bike from decades ago. All heavy steel, including chrome stem, bars, and rims. Nothing special and the headbadge was probably the coolest thing about the bike.

I remember a Ranger 3 speed which was a rebadged Raleigh but can’t remember the badge.
