64 Cinelli build
 
I have this frame and some Nuovo Record bits. What else should I put on there?

review the velo-retro Campagnolo time line.
Nuovo Record was not around.

Record was.
most likely Universal brakes.
Fiamme red label rims.

attached shift cable guide is too new.

One thing is to make sure you have a correct BB spindle, I assume this is 70mm so can be a bit of a challenge, especially if you want to go with a triple. aside from that, what ever you want for however you're going to use it. :foo:

Mine will eventually be Spence Wolf Alpine inspired build so I will need a very special spindle for a triple as mine is a 74mm. :twitchy:

Is that you, John? I'm putting on NR now and will put on the "correct" stuff later. I've been told that Gran Sport is an option.

One thing I would like is a correct stem and bar. Anyone have something appropriate? Mid-60s Cinelli stem and bar?

I have the correct spindle! That's one thing I DO have. As discussed elsewhere, I've decided to "Spence Wolf" three other bikes and keep this one somewhat original.

Merziac: If you have a 74mm BB shell, Phil Wood is your friend. Campy BBs for 74mm used 3/16 " bearings. Those aren't hard to find. The cups are a different story. Finding a thin-walled Italian-threaded cup for 3/16" bearings is amazingly not easy. All of this was learned the hard way. Profit from my angst. :D

I finally gave up and put in a Phil Wood using standard Italian threaded cups. Use blue loctite - not red - on the DS cup to keep it self-removing as you ride, as Italian DS cups are wont to do. Mine was for a double up front, but I am sure you can get a Phil spindle long enough to handle a triple and because of the way Phils are made, you have several millimeters of side-to-side adjustment available .

If you use Universal 61s (or any center-pull brake), you will need to factor in the rear brake cable hanger. Standard ones will not be wide enough and the arms are most likely too short to rebend to fit. Because of the way Cinelli seat post bots fit, you can't use the more modern dangle-from-the-middle-of-the-bolt hangers. Universal made one-arm hangers, but they came in two designs. One was purpose made for use with Cinellis (I found one on eBay and am embarrassed to say how much I spent for it) and one for use on everything else. You could use the second on on a Cinelli, but t would leave the cable off-center. So the choices of which I am aware are (1) hope you can find the right Universal hanger and be prepared to spend stupid money for it or (2) get creative.

Just another example of Cino Cinelli's design idiosyncrasies. If my experience is any indication, though, it will be a joy to ride.

There are a lot of options. Titan stem with Maes-Kint bars. Ambrosio/3T stem/bars. GS is good if you want tier 2, Record as mentioned before was top of the line. Or you could go Simplex for that matter. Fiamme, Mavic, Weinmann, Ambrosio rims, whatever.

But it seems you know all this so do want you want. You could play a game. What would be the "typical" build out of Germany? The US? UK? Or mix and match. What really doesn't matter is another opinion.

This is helpful! I love opinions. I'm not sure I can afford to get it period correct but I stumble across cool parts sometimes.

Tx, I have a complete, excellent condition 74mm BB for a double that came with the frame, HS, SP, original and repro binder bolts as well.

Phil will be the way to go for the triple. ;)

Should have stepped up for a Merz binder bolt when he made them. :twitchy:
