Picked up today

I was browsing the local thrift store today and came upon a 1988 Schwinn Caliente for a whopping $6.
Thats right folks 6 whole dollars. It is a small frame and the boy has been bugging me for a road bike so now he has one. Now the fun starts asd I get to fix it all up nice and shiny for him.
They also had a Raliegh Record(?) for the same price. But being I am not a Raliegh guy wasn't sure if this is a good bike to get and fix up or not. Was I wrong? Should I go back tomorrow and get it?

Tell us the color, what brand derailleurs, crankset -- stuff like that, and we'll nail it down.

And if we can't, we'll make our wild-*ss guess sound real convincing.

Simple. Leave it outside in the rain for three years. That ought to do it.

It takes 10 or 15 years to really build up a nice crust on the aluminum though; less if you live near the ocean though.

I live only two blocks from the ocean, so it's no problem. If anyone needs a classic bike aged (preferably in the 55cm range), just ship it to me and I'll get the process underway.
