Later, Keith would really exploit paint masks, so possibly.
Great talent.
But, it does not pay enough.
from time to time on his flickr feed he would strip a near completed frame if it was not up to standard.

Spray paint can explosion on the other side of the workshop?

steelbikeguy 11-22-21 04:43 PM

just as one benchmark of the era, I've got this page from a 1990 issue of Bicycle Guide.
It strikes me as more of an "overspray" scheme than splatter, per se, but what do I know?

I never warmed up to this sort of paint, nor to the idea of 650C wheels on large bikes.

I’ve always loved these splatter paint jobs!

Millstone 11-23-21 03:59 AM

650C no, but I really like that bike on the second row :)

Kind of from the debate, it was Senator Lloyd Bentsen who reminded Dan Quayle that he was no Jack Kennedy.

That pretty much sums up my feelings about any design from that particular era.

Probably don't like Memphis either.

grant40 11-23-21 07:28 PM

I have that same exact frame but taller and someone just took a spray can to it. They didn't do a good job and the paint is flaking off.

Here is the only picture I have at this moment as it is sitting at the local bike co op as I didn't have enough room in the car to take it and the also poorly spray painted Shogun mixte home at the same time.

I think it"s called "fade"...and I like both fade and splatter paint if done well. :D
Best, Ben

Reminds me of the Salsa jellybean rasta bike. I have a Kieth Anderson Road bike with a wacky paint job on it, I asked for it though!

Well you need to get to 5 posts X 2 days for 10 so you can post pics or it didn't happen. ;)

You can also put them in an album or your gallery and they may get moved here.

Citoyen du Monde 08-31-25 10:14 PM

This is splatter paint job that I did.

This was my daughter's bike when she was about twelve years old. Applying the splatter over the powdercoat was a fine father/daughter project that we both remember fondly now thirty-some years later.

I think frames like almost anything are potential canvases. Speaking as one who has created a few eye-sores to some, I love the creativity.

Chombi1 09-02-25 11:12 AM

It might be the "purple haze" at work there....:D

All seriousness, its what you ride- it should reflect what you like. Makes total sense.
...you need to start a thread when its painted.

Sorry, never bothered to create a thread once the bike was repainted, but here is a pic of the result, still not missing the purple splatter. Yellow Jersey did the repaint and decals.
