What was Keith Anderson thinking?
 

Why would anyone paint a Trek frame like this? And why do I have it?

Good color. The splats of primary complimentary colors and the other blobs were of a time.
paint silliness has not gone away.

Those are both excellent questions, indeed.

He ran into a great deal on purple paint and couldn't refuse. Unfortunately, he dribbled some yellow paint on there in a few areas and didn't notice until it was too late. He went ahead and dribbled a little bit more yellow all over as to appear purposeful. He did realize he got carried away with the green, and that was regretful.

The reason you have it is pure fate. It was your destiny to have this. There was no outcome in the universe where you couldn't have it. Try to sell it. You cannot. It will always be yours.

Cool color, but its lacking more splatter!

Custom paint isnt intended to be for everyone...its custom.

Is it from the 80’s? A little dated I guess. You either embrace it or find someone who can.

That is absolutely the worst splatter job I have ever seen. It doesn’t even look like splatter, it looks like someone picked a bottle of nail polish with their eyes closed and used it for paint touch up.

Don't blame Keith. It's probably what the customer requested.

There is nothing wrong with it. In fact, it's very well done as those blobs aren't just splattered on, but look very level with the base purple. Quickly said, that's not easy to accomplish, and either included a good deal of wet color sanding, or quick work on a paint with an extended dry time.

If it’s one of the really good trek frames, you could always repaint it, I would. Sending a 92 purple splatter series 5 Paramount off to repaint after the holidays, just never warmed up to that color scheme.

It really dates me to being in my mid 40s to say, I can dig the splatter paint. Tri-color rasta fades are better, but all those funky finishes of the late 80s through mid 90s hit close for me.

I love the datedness of it but if it offended my less than delicate sensibilities I would sell it to someone that would appreciate it as-is and move on to something I liked.

I'm wondering if this is really a splatter job. I think it might be painted with yellow and green as base layers 1st and then masked with with torn tape. Then the purple is painted as a main color over the masks. I've painted a few splatters and they look a lot more like Unca Sam's bike. To get the paint off of the brush, you have to kind of fling the brush to get it to release and then the result is those long runners. If you drip it on, the paint will collect and be thick where the paint dropped. That will require too much work to smooth everything out so the finish isn't rough. Another reason for my suggested approach is that it is tiresome to put on too many torn tape masks so it makes sense from a time aspect to not load it up with 2nd and 3rd colors too much.

The frame was painted years ago because Kieth's decal indicates he was in Indianapolis. He moved out west a long time ago. I helped Kieth in a modest way get started with frame building. Niles, MI is straight up US 31 from Indy. He bought my 1st sandblasting cabinet as well as some frame building fixtures as well as giving him a few building pointers. I didn't have anything to do with his learning to paint. If I am remembering right, splatter paint jobs were popular in the mid to later 80's.
